I seriously spend so much time practicing chip shots at my house that I would rather chip 15 feet from the hole on the green then putt.

3 dixie cups at 20 feet '3rd one slides' and a small cup at 35 feet with some showmanship.

Anybody else do this? I don't watch much tv or play video games so I just get stir crazy in the winter.

Not as many as you would think. On the first try I hit 2 of the three dixies and just nailed the cup on the fourth shot. I just had a digi camera so I couldn't make too many attempts.

I really wanted the ball to end up in the cup but there wasn't a way to do that by just hitting at it because it kept getting knocked over.

Last winter I practiced chipping 2-3 hours a day every night. It's a 56 degree wedge and I play a little push with an open club face and a low trajectory and its gotten really accurate. Chipping on line has become really easy but that last shot is hard. Hitting the cup isn't to bad but getting it in the cup is.

This year I focused on my drives, which worked out. But I'm surprised how much my short game has suffered from the lack of attention.

Gotta love this game for it's completeness.

In my bag:

One for slicing
One for hooking
One for knocking it in the cup

Fourth cup is really awesome. My house is too small to practice anything in, and the practice greens turn into quagmires so it's range all winter

I play on an executive course all winter. After I hit my tee ball, I'll walk up to [pick a distance] from the hole and pitch/chip on. I get to practice my short game on every hole, and if no one is pushing me, I'll drop a second ball somewhere else to play a different short shot.

I find short game practice under playing conditions to be much more beneficial than hitting shots at the range.

I don't see how chipping/pitching indoors is really a good practice. Seems like you need to at least be in the back yard where there is a bit of grass.

Not sure how it is in Deleware, but here in Michigan you don't have many options. I agree it's not the scenario but you can practice solid contact. Similar to chipping from the fairway. Just make sure don't have any breakables around. I've had some close calls.

A trash receptable makes a good target, as does my sons bouncy seat if he happens to be relaxing elsewhere at the time.
