Has anybody been to both? Irvine, CA and the Santa Ana, CA one that is. Which is cheaper? The new Extreme looks nicer (it's newer) but... that' really secondary. Used selection at the Golfsmith? They do have Snake Eyes stuff which can be demo'd which is nice... just curious!

I have been to both and to me it depends on what your looking for.

Used Clubs - No doubt, Roger Dunn. You can try any of the clubs like a golf club buffet there as well.

For clothes, I prefer Golfsmith. This includes shoes. pretty much everything else RD.

I like both. Mostly clothes and accessories from Golfsmith and clubs, etc. from Roger Dunn. They have a really good used golf selection and the price is very reasonable (Roger Dunn for used clubs)!! It depends on what you're looking for :)

That Roger Dunn in Santa Ana is sick. It's like a costco sized golf shop. Soooo many used clubs. I actually didn't even know what to do with myself when I was in there.

I used to have a huge preference for Roger Dunn over Golfsmith. RD hasn't done anything to make me regret this, and they get the majority of my money. My big beef with GolfSmith was their return policy; 90% back, while RD does 100% back. However, my understanding is that GolfSmith is now doing 100%. Either way, I will be checking the new GolfSmith in Lake Forest on Friday.

I got a flier from them last Weds/Thurs saying they were open... don't know if it was a "soft opening" and the grand opening is this week.

I just got an e-mail from Golfsmith, their Extreme location has a grand opening on Friday. Too bad I won't be down there until Saturday, oh well. For the first several hundred customers, they are giving away free gift cards and tons of other stuff. You should go and check it out. We'll be there on Saturday since we'll be in the OC anyways

I went to the Golfsmith last Monday and they were wide open. The grand opening is this week and they are giving away gift cards like Golf gurl said. Here is a pic of the bag section. You can see a pic I took of the bag section in my post here.

I will be there on Friday with my fingers crossed for some drawing winners!

I checked out the Golfsmith Extreme in Irvine this afternoon. It is about the same size as the Roger Dunn in Santa Ana, but far more upscale. Much nicer displays, somewhat higher end clothing. However, MUCH less in the way of used clubs. No place I've ever been can touch RD in that department. They also have the largest, nicest hitting area that I've ever seen at a golf store. They must have 8 or 9 hitting stations with Truestrike mats, launch monitors and large computer screens. The hitting stations are situated along a quarter cirle arc, facing the corner of the store. The back wall must be 50 to 60 feet from the tee areas. You can actually see some of the ball flight. Nice! Its much different than RD, but a nice alternative.

love the golfsmith xtreme...just down the road from me...never a jungle like RD can sometimes be. lots of stalls to try everyclub in the store if you want to. The sales staff is a bit more personal i think too...went to go buy a putter last friday...salesman went out of his way to find just the right putter and get it set up just the way i wanted it.

If anyone in OC wants to check out a much smaller store, I highly recommend Birdie Golf in Irvine...Its on Barranca, just east of culver (in woodbridge community). I bought my irons from them...they are great and will match the best prices from anywhere else. they can't match golfsmith for selection..but they always seem to have whatever i'm looking for..and for smaller club purchases like fairway woods/hybrids/wedges...they have the most popular models.
