Hi all, I have been lurking this forum for about a year. I am currently thinking of making a switch from my Ping G10 irons to Mizuno MX-300s and would like some feedback.

I am a former high school and Div. III college golfer whose game has deteriorated due to not playing much during law school and getting started with my job. Two years ago I ditched my old Titleist 962s and opted for some Ping G10s when I started getting back into the game more. I am currently about a 9-10 handicap, but I would say that my mid-long iron ball striking is my biggest weakness right now.

I am a tall player and use +1.25" irons. I have the AWT shafts in the G10s in stiff and would like to move to the KBS tour. I hit the ball solidly with the G10s, but don't like them on anything other than a full shot. I don't even feel like I can hit a 3/4 or low trajectory shot with them. Not to mention how much that large sole bothers me on shots around the greens. I find myself hitting my Vokey sand or lob wedge more often to avoid this.

Has anyone made a switch similar to this, or I am potentially biting off more than I can chew with the 300s? Should I consider 200s, or buy the 300s and grow into them?

I play about 36-54 holes a week with one or two range sessions mixed in.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Are these the irons your talking about?

Because if so I'd say go ahead.
They'll still have a good bit of forgiveness.

Yeah, that's the MX-300. It's more of a player's cavity back.

Go for them. You're almost a single figure, you should be able to manage with them.

i made a similar switch from a set of wilson super game improvement irons to the titleist 710 ap2. so far i don't regret the change because it's easier for me to control my shots and hit them where I want. They're even more forgiving than my old SGI!
I suggest you make the switch. I'm able to play about 9 holes a week due to the weather/temperature and all my schoolwork but I'm still better off with these. Haven't had a very low round (for my handicap) yet but I can see my game is improving just by making the switch.
It's not easy to compare the two clubs if not at the range because I played with my SGI this summer/early autumn with 25 to 15 degrees celcius and now i'm playing with 5 degrees at most, very wet course and strong wind.
I was very happy last weekend since I was able to hit a 4-iron 180 yards with a headwind and hitting a high fade! I just love these clubs and I think you should switch as well cuz it will really help you game.

My guess is that you have the skill to game any cavity back iron on the market. Give some of the MP series sticks a try as well.

I agree entirely, the MX300 are good, but I'd recommend you try some MP-57s or similar... the MP-57s are not in the 2010 range so you can get some cracking deals on them, and they are a "players" full cavity club too!
