Ok..I'll admit that I don't even know the name of the tournament that just finished in South Africa, but the 18th hole on the last day was a real bugger. Seems like every other guy was dunkin their ball in the drink after a nasty bounce on the green. I thought I heard that one guy even scored a 10 (par 5 hole).

I don't know much about Pablo Martin, but with a 2 stroke lead was able to control his nerves and make par without geting wet. Very refreshing to see good golf from guys that don't get a lot of press.

Martin's also good for his word, too. As I remember the story, he promised his coach at school he'd play the 2006-2007 school year... and then won on the European Tour. Turned down a pile of prize money to play another year at school.

I think this makes him the first - and thus far, only - to win as both a professional and amateur on the European Tour, a feat Danny Lee hopes to replicate this season. The last people to do that stunt on the (U.S.) PGA Tour are named Phil Mickelson and Scott Verplank.

If you're talking about Bebb, he put up an 11 on #18. It was the Alfred Dunhill Championship. Here, take a look at the scores on #18:

Poor Sion Bebb. His 11 took him from 5th to about 18th or so - and he has just come from Q-school so he needs all the good results he can get.

That green at 18 did seem to get odd, though - lot of players went through and the least lucky went out the back into the water.

Bebb's father played international-standard rugby for Wales and for the Lions on the wing (US equivalent - wide receiver, I guess). Scored a lot of tries (touchdowns).

http://www.sionbebb.com/ - you Americans will hear some strange stuff on his website video! They're Welsh names, pronounced in Welsh - and the spelling, you would not believe!!

Bebb's career hasn't been a gilded path - he's had to work hard for his living. Became a junior club pro at 17, got his first full card just a few years ago. Hope he bounce back.

I think this makes him the first - and thus far, only - to win as both a professional and amateur on the European Tour, a feat Danny Lee hopes to replicate this season.
