As you can see in my sig I have a Mizuno Hybrid. I'm not thrilled with the shaft and I have an old 3 wood that my son used to use and the head is damaged. The shaft in it is a Aldila Proto. Would it be advisible to put that shaft in a hybrid? Is it worth the effort? Money?

no, it wouldnt work at all. You would have to cut a fair amount off the shaft to make it the same length and doing that would mess up the flex, kickpoint etc

you will also probably find that the 3 wood and hybrid have different tip sizes!

if you wanna change the shaft, then do it right and buy the hybrid version of the shaft

Hold on! Yes you can use that shaft in the hybrid. What's the 3 wood head and what model Mizuno hybrid? What shafts are in them now? There isn't going to be enough trimming to mess up the shaft since most will come from the butt end anyway because the VS Proto is a butt trim only shaft. Give me some specifics on the clubs and I'll try to help you out. Weights may be different on the shafts and most certainly on the heads, but the weight you use in shafts is just a preference thing anyway. 3 wood shafts are used in hybrids all the time, believe Me OR I'll take the 3w off of your hands, hows that?

Ok. The hybrid is the MX700 with the Exsar stiff shaft. The Proto is coming out of a Ping Rapture from about three years ago.

The PING is a .350 Hosed ID. It is a VS Proto 85, yes? I can't find the hosel ID on the Mizuno because of how new it is, BUT...all their other hybrids in the past that have the graphite shafts factory are .370 hosel ID. So you can use a .350 into a .370, but it will take a shim to do it correctly. Do you do any of your own work or have a club builder close?

I do have access to someone who does club building. I can regrip, that's all! The idea of a shim doesn't really thrill me but I will talk to our local club tinkerer. I just threw this idea out here because I was looking for someone to say "yes, no problem" or "absolutely not". I just have this shaft and I hate for it to go to waste/be of no use. Plus I was looking for a different performance from my hybrid.

"Club tinkerer" ? People use shims all the time, as long as the prep work is sufficient there shouldn't be any problem. Let Me know what your tinkerer says. I'd take that .350 shaft off your hands before you just let it collect dust.

Cutting it from the butt end NO, you'll be fine. It will stiffen it up a bit, but not enough to tell. Just don't mess with the tip.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
