Well I finally got to get out and hit 10-12 balls yesterday as the weather got up to around 40 and the snow melted. I noticed that I keep hitting the ball off the heel of my driver. Now, this could be due to the fact I havent been able to fully swing a golf club since season ended because of the weather, but it could also be because I got a longer shafted driver becasue it seemed to fit me better. Any tips to help me get back on center? It would be very appreciated. Oh, and.. heel of the driver.

yea practice lol jk,your just probly too tense you need to be relaxed ,but very difficult to do in weather like that.

I was having that problem for a while. I realized that for me I was dipping my head slightly on the backswing, then leaving it down on the downswing.

Practice more.. You can overcome this easily..

Unfortunately, practice without knowing the cause only grooves bad habit. One thing you should check is your posture. If you are too erect on your address, often times you tend to hit on the heel as you dip your head slightly during the swing (as Addicted2Golf said above). IMHO, most of the bad swings result from incorrect basic or fundamentals. In this case, I think it may be your posture at address. And since your driver length has increased, it is likely that your are standing too erect causing you to hit the driver on the heel.

    • Idk but I would have to imagine that a putter that is aimed where you think it's aimed would be the most important aspect of a putter

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
