Will Woods or a top seed win it this year? Or will a surpise (like Kevin Sutherland in 2002) win? Other than the majors, this is the tournament I look most forward to every year. What can I say, I'm a sucker for match play!

I, too, am really excited about this week. I honestly think this is Adam Scott's time. He took Tiger to the brink last year and if he gets to Tiger again this year he will have likely gone through Sergio (my second fave pro) and Lefty already. He'll be seasoned and primed for the "upset."

Speaking of the Match Play Championship, I was hoping someone here would have the time and gumption to put together a quick tourney pool, a la college basketball's March Madness. You know, we all pick a winner, starting with 64 and going forward, tally up points to see who wins kind of thing? I've got a baby due in less that a week so I don't have much time, but I'd love to participate if someone could throw it together in the next day and a half.

I think I can take care of it . . . I'll even throw in a prize for the winner, provided we get 10 or more entries. Simple format, one correct pick=1 point, who ever has the most points at the end wins.

Who ever wants to participate, please e-mail me a list of who you think will win from this bracket in the following format:
Round 1: Pick 1 - Singh (or whoever you pick) Pick 2 - Haas . . . Pick 32 - Maruyama Round 2: Pick 1 Pick 2 . . . Pick 16 Round 3 Pick 1 Pick 2 . . . Pick 8 And so on and so forth.

Please e-mail it here:

t_madefan@yahoo.com and hopefully we can get something together last minute. Entries will be closed Thursday morning at 8:00am EST. Thanks

I've created a JPEG of the brackets. You can find it right here .

No doubt we'll use the image in some Sand Trap articles this week.

More brackets can be found at ESPN .

You're the man! That's awesome, Erik. Good job.

I filled out my tournament bracket and sent it off to Kiran.

How ESPN handles the scoring this week will be interesting. I mean, say Tiger dispatches of Price in 14 holes (5 & 4). That leaves people who pick Tiger without 4 holes on which to make birdie! And if your guy's out in the first round, ouch .

Well, The Sand Trap's own Donald MacKenzie has boldly predicted a Mickelson win . Fine reading indeed... especially when Roberts knocks him out in the first round with superb putting and a steady game.

Phil's game the last day of Pebble - with wind and rain - wasn't so hot, after all, and La Costa sure as heck ain't Phoenix.

I'm not on the Lefty bandwagon either, though I at least have him advancing to the semifinals, where he will promptly be beaten by eventual champion Adam Scott.

I hate the brackets. My two favorite pros will probably match-up in the "Sweet 16." The problem with predicting this tourney is that inevitably someone comes out of nowhere to make a solid run. Great to watch as a fan horrible for a fantasy golf player.

FYI:

They need to move the whole west coast swing to March or April and play hte Florida tournaments now, it'll be better for everyone.

I guess it's also good because it'll give everyone who wants into the matchplay pool till thursday morning to sign up!

That must be you on the ESPN Fantasy message boards, Anxiety. Saw someone today posting with your name. I'm "comicalize" over there. Heh. I filled out my Golf Magazine bracket, too. I love match play.

Yup that's me. Never can have enough forums.

Well, I'm in. Are there 10 entrants?

Callaway XHot Pro 15* 3Wood w/Project X 6.5
Callaway XTour 18* 2h w/S300
Callaway XHot Pro 4/5 irons w/S300
Callaway XForged III 5-PW irons w/S300
Callaway Forged 52*/58* Wedges
Odyssey 7 Versa 90
Callaway Hex Black Tour

Just knowing that one of the top five will probably not win this (even though Tiger won the last two), I picked KJ Choi. Don't ask me why other than I think he has the game to win a major and he has the temperament to play match play. I will say that it was hard not to pick one of the European Ryder Cuppers since they all seem to be so much better at this than the Americans.

    • MSN Glover expressed his dissatisfaction with what he termed as 'cool kid meetings' between Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, Tiger Woods and other high-profile golfers. "I think it's terrible," he stated. "And then hiding behind pace of play, I think, challenges our intelligence. They think we're stupid.     "Don't cut fields because it's a pace of play issue. Tell us to play faster, or just say you're trying to appease six guys and make them happy so they don't go somewhere else and play golf." Fitzpatrick joined the conversation on X (formerly Twitter), with the 30-year-old echoing Glover's sentiments regarding the PGA Tour changes. "He's so right," Fitzpatrick posted. "Pathetic that pace of play is spoken about every year and nothing ever gets done."     I agree. Instead of  penalizing  players for  turtle  play they appease the  slow jerks  by  cutting the  fields. They will play even slower  knowing they will NEVER be  penalized.
    • I've been Playing Golf for: 3 years  My current handicap index or average score is: 1.5 My typical ball flight is: neutral /slight draw The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: hook   Looking for some advice please folks. Started golfing three years ago and got hooked. Had some early lessons and was a slicer etc.  I used to have a severe inside takeaway and through working hard to fix as ever (this game…) it’s now gone too far the other way where I take it back way outside.  i think it looks really bad and have gotten a lesson last year where we tried to competely reset the swing and it ruined things for months as I couldn’t get it to stick (my fault).    anyway do I need to fix this? I hit it reasonably solid but don’t know what else I’m looking at or need to clean up. All opinions welcomed!  Videos:
    • A local film critic gave the movie “Wicked” a great review. I saw the stage musical several years ago (pre-COVID) and enjoyed it. Likely won’t see the cinematic version but one never knows. I probably will go to “Gladiator 2” at some point unless the reviews are terrible.
