Wanted to know what everyone's thoughts were on skycaddie's soon to be released SGX model. What intrigued me was their smartclub technology where a tag is located on the grip end of each club, which is linked to your SGX gps system. Clubs left behind can notify the user that they should retrieve their club and the technology will also allow the user to log in the data to capture the the distance of each club to use without the need to manually log in your yardages. This could truly be a wonderful breakthrough for recreational golfers who don't have the ability to have on course caddies.

The price is steep with a start price of $399.95 for the handheld GPS and there are no prices yet for the smartclub tags as they will be released later this year.

Okay when you get too far away from the club you get notified. Thats nice, but how does the technology also allow you to know how far the ball will travel after being hit with a club?

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

This is just a guess but with my current skycaddie i can see how far i hit each shot by marking my location. It would only work if someone clicks it where they line up each shot.

Currently I can see how far each of my drives has gone online, but when chipping i never bring my skycaddie up to the green so I really would never see any of my distances that are hit onto or near the green.

I think it will only tell you what club you use for certain distances, for instance, if you keep pulling your 8 iron out when ever the skycaddie says 150 the sky caddie will think you hit your 8 iron 150 yards, when you get to the green and you pull your putter it knows you hit the green,or if you pull more than one club out at the green it knows your chippin. Now i have never used one of the new ones because they are not out yet, but from reading on their web site about them ,this is how i think they will work, could be wrong.

Actually, it makes more since that when you pull a 6 iron for example, it knows where you are when you pull the club and I think that it will know when the club is swung. From there, it will start measuring the distance to when you hit the next shot and record that distance for your 6 iron. It will do that until you are on the green. I imagine that they want to make it that easy and accurate for it to even make since to spend the R&D; money on. IF this is how it works, it could be really great. After a few rounds of taking every shot and recording the distance and club selection, the device could then very accurately give you the correct club for the average distance to your layup or spot on the green. I can't wait till this device comes out. With a proven name in the industry, this will be THE GPS device of the year, and probably a while longer..

Mizuno is introducing new technology with their JPX One fairway woods and drivers. The new tech for golf but used tech for Mizuno since it is found in their baseball side of the business, is Nanoalloy. Nanoalloy is a microscopic polymer layer put on the face of their titanium driver. What this layer does is change the elasticity of the driver face and increases ball speed over a larger area of the clubface. Adding a bit more elasticity with this layer, they are conserving the golf balls energy from the impact.  Due to USGA rules, this technology falls under their coating regulations. Which add a correction factor to the ball speed testing done for conforming golf clubs. This rule was introduced when Taylormade went to their carbon clubface. Which I didn't know existed.  I am sure that center strikes are at the USGA limits like all other drivers. This has my interest. I am always, "window shopping", for new golf equipment 😉
