OK, someone's gotta ask so what-the-hey .....

ahem, Sir, .... do any professional golfers north of Hadrian's Wall play in full pink?

And how about the amateurs?

Or is it a Luton area sort of thing??? Never came across it in Berks/Bucks/Hants/Oxon/Surrey myself.

[just asking ...... ]

Fort Lauderdale is a long way from Stevenage. How would you know?

Only kidding. I suspect you're right.

Got to hand it to Poulter,he looked solid the whole way through the tournament.Played very well and kept applying the pressure.

I watched at least part of all 5 days worth of coverage and all of the final 2 days and I'll say this for him, he was the only guy I saw that was anywhere near consistent with the putter from day one to day five. I don't think I've seen so many closely missed putts from so many different players in one tournament.

Jay-Bird:

I can't speak for the entire country but yes, I do like Poulter. I like his game - which is pretty good, as we all saw last week. He's accessible and, yes, brash - he used to be the regular cover-boy on Golf Punk magazine - and connects with the younger players (in my club, anyway). OK, he occasionally puts his mouth in gear before engaging his brain but that's also part of the appeal. Post-round interviews are usually quite entertining. And he smiles! Is that even allowed???!

LOL!

I don't believe that pink is the colour of choice North of the Border...more like Burberrys and waxed jackets! You got to admit, tho - you've got to be pretty diamond to wear pink in public. It's almost a statement of how butch he is!! No, I'm not expecting an outbreak of pink romper suits on the course any time soon - but you never know, if the women get let loose in the pro's shop buying stuff for their menfolk. Why, my own dear lady has suggested I might look good in pink... ...I have suggested a visit to SpecSavers. I'll stick to dark colours and stripes which, if present at all, are vertically oriented. I find them more comfortable... (Re: Poults. this article's quite good. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/gol...y-victory.html )

Thanks for posting that link, it's good to see the Torygraph still has at least one good sports writer. They have a splendid tradition to maintain as I recall from the 60s to early 80s.

Very interesting and consistent with the little I know about the guy, vis. he's a gritty (street) fighter who shouldn't be underestimated as a result. Casey also strikes me as tough-minded but in a different way - interesting to hear the latter talk about the former.

Tiger is the best there is at the moment more than anything IMHO because of his mental toughness and discipline when it comes to golf - his hypercompetitiveness. If anyone truly aspires to compete with him, they're going to have to try to match that - as well as to have the physical skills of course.

Very interesting piece on Poulter, especially the historical context. He really strike me as someone it would be very, very interesting to have a few pints of 4X with on a rainy Sunday afternoon ..... Like Sir Nick in that respect.

p.s. having known many many scotsman, including some at a certain College well south of the border founded many centuries ago by a reformed renegade Scot, I agree with you entirely. There's a reason why Hadrian built that wall - who was being protected from whom?? I've learned not to mess with those guys too much .....

    • Day 134 (26 Apr 24) - played Minnesott today, worked with the mid-irons and approaches (especially the 7i).  Scoring was a little higher, but I was focused on making the needed adjustments to the swing to achieve desired distances.
    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
