Any SoCal folks catch this story?

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la...,4522951.story

I'd read about the VA course before, didn't realize it'd been closed down. Anyone know anything about this or have any thoughts?

Run by the Federal Government and run so poorly it could be robbed for 6 years without disclosure? What, is that the story? Or that they had to close the course for 60 days to get ready
to reopen. And they still say it isn't expected to make much money. We are soo screwed in this country.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

I don't know, it seems like it could be hard to catch if it's done wisely, even at a private course. Most courses I've seen don't seem to have any record of how many play except the tee-time sheet, so if they don't mark down a player here or there and pocket the cash, it'd be hard to audit. Sounds to me like these guys got greedy if they took $10,000s in a single year, but then I don't know what sort of total income that's a fraction of.

But I'm really mostly curious if anyone here has played there, what they thought, and if they'd noticed it being closed. Is it worth checking out when it reopens? (and can I expect to pay half-price if I let them not write me on the tee time sheet? )

I used to play this course all the time when I was starting. It was $10 for as many holes as you could get in before you decided to pack it in. There were fun 18-hole tournaments on Sundays, too; skins matches mostly for the lower brackets. For someone who had yet to break 100 on a regulation course, the ability to play 30 holes of par-3 after work was a tremendous benefit.

I knew it had closed about a year or so ago; I haven't read the article yet, though. Is it re-opening?

Article says in a couple months, after they've cleaned up the books or something. Very odd, it wasn't entirely clear why it was shut, whether it was purely the financial issue or whether there was something else going on.

When it makes sense - and I've no idea when that will be - I'll drop by and take a look. I live a 10 minute drive from there, but it's a hassle to and from lately, and it isn't much farther to Rancho Park.
