Whats up everyone, I was just wondering if any of you wash your grips and if you do so, what is your method of washing them and how often do you wash them? I just got a new set of clubs and would like to make the grips last as long as I can so any info on if this practice is helpful or harmful to the grips would be greatly appreciated.

zebrasinamerica,

A touch of dishwashing soap in a bucket combined with a green scotchbrite scouring pad works wonders for cleaning grips. The scotchbrite is abrasive enough to get rid of dirt and rough up the grip a bit, but not so abrasive that it actually removes any of the rubber. This works wonders on cord grips especially, removing all the dirt, oils, and bringing some of the cord material back to the surface. Just remember to rinse them thoroughly with clean water when done. You don't want your clubs to start lathering when you're at the range.

G-C I tried the scotch brite pad on my wedge that the grip was awful on and it worked like a charm, it's got a cord grip on it and it feels like new again. One question though, will this method work on Tour Velvets also?

thanks

Zebra,

Glad to hear it worked. It will most definately work for standard rubber grips. However, you will likely need to repeat the process more often to restore the tack and remove dirt and oil. Also, don't forget that traditional rubber grips need to be replaced more frequently than cord grips, so keep that in mind. All grips have a lifespan, and once they reach their limit, no amount of washing will help.

Hi,

I used very hot water to clean my fairly new Tour Velvet grips - no soap - and the tackiness is gone. I'll try your Scotchbrite solution, but any other suggestions (besided new grips)?

Why question the quality and cleanliness of your grips and gloves?

They're the connectors to those top quality clubs one has chosen to put in one's bag. If those connectors slip even as much as a micro-millimeter...

I regrip probably too much (yet clean them religiously). But I don't spend a lot on equipment changes either.

    • Thanks Matt! Also, does this list have a lot of diversity of layout and scenery? I'd like to see as much as possible of what the RTJ trail has to offer
    • Swing check. Cons: The countertop drill hasn't taken yet. Not crazy about A5 to A6 hand path. Pros: Decent BS width at A2 and right elbow at A4. All in all, not terrible but meh..
    • Day 74 (14 Jul 25) - Late afternoon session w/9i, magnetic alignment stick, Divot board and hard foam balls.  Worked on getting the face square at setup and then returning to same through the swing.  The lines on the Divot Board served as referenced parallels for the alignment stick.  Did hit a few balls about 30 total - half with using the alighment stick on the club face and half without.  First time working with the magnetic alignment rod - really reveals when you have the face closed/open/etc.
    • I mean, that is what I figure would be the case.  My mind is just trying to wrap around the idea that 22" left = feet aiming like 15 yards left visually. It's like in a CADD system, if the flag is the base point when you scale an image, it stays in the same spot as you get closer (scale up) or get further away (scale down).  I can image how if you have a 10-yard chip, it could look much more like your feet are aimed nearly 22" left of the flag.  Now I want to try to make some measurements and quantify this 🤣.  Yes, they do. Yea, that is true.
    • Closer to like 22" than 36. Why wouldn't the target line (ball) be at the target (flag) with your feet parallel left of that? Perception messes with a lot of people. Almost all righties tend to aim to the right, because what feels parallel left — particularly given that your eyes are "between" the ball and your feet — feel like they're pointed MILES left even when they're square. Also, there's no rule that you have to be parallel left of the target line. I like to be slightly open at setup.
