I am currently playing an old Wilson Deep Red 9 degree.


Would upgrading to one of the new drivers with a bigger head increase my distance enough to make it worthwhile?

I averaged 41.1% of fairways hit with a driving average of 228 yards over 12 rounds last year.

Over the last 5 rounds since making a swing change that average changed to 236 yards and 55% of fairways hit.


Will upgrading equipment make a big change?

You should hit the ball further and be a bit more accurate if you get properly fitted.

I think this guy is trying to tell you to make sure you go to someone who knows what they are doing when and if you get fitted for a club.

I am currently playing an old Wilson Deep Red 9 degree.

Probably you could increase your distance and accuracy, but not because the head is bigger. I doubt you'd get a proper driver fitting and end up with a 9 degree driver. I toss an older 9 degree Big Bertha Warbird in the bag on windy days because it's workable and the ball stays fairly low. I actually hit my newer Cleveland 3-wood a very similar distance.

If the launch monitors are accurate, I hit my 10+ year old Callaway and my 5 year old Nickent the same distance as my 2009 PING G10. The G10 just ends up closer to the middle of the fairway, that's all.
