I'm playing a new course this weekend and on their website they offer diagrams of each hole on the course. I am unfamiliar with these types of diagrams, I don't know what some of the numbers mean. I assume they are distances and I think I understand some of it but I'd like to know for sure.

I have no idea what a depth of 25 means or what the numbers 1-6 are supposed to be, and I'm not sure about the yardage numbers because added up they don't seem to match the hole distances listed in the upper right.

Can someone help me out?

Starting from the bottom, the numbers by the lines coming from the tees are indicating the distance from the tee to a marker on the course. The other numbers by themselves represent the distance from that point to the center of the green. The Depth of 25 is the depth of the green from front to back (25 yards) and the numbers 1-6 probably indicate flag location. You will probably see a corresponding number on the tee box or in your cart to let you know where the flag is located at each hole.

The numbers on the green 1-6 is flag placement, which can change from day to day. The depth tell you how deep the green is, distance from front to back.

Numbers from tee is to the white markers on the fairway, which I assume is 150 yard markers. Red markers would then be 100 yards. The numbers from tee show distance to 150 yard or 100 yard from the green.

The hole yardages was a bit strange. On one par 3, the white tees ranged from 129 to 159, but the hole yardage was 147. At the same hole, the blue tees ranged from 181 to 202, hole yardage at 200.

The hole yardage seems to be taken from different parts of the tee area.

Since the distances to 100 and 150 is taken from the front of the tee area, you won't get the same numbers as hole yardages. Add 5-20 yards, depending on how deep the tee area is and where the hole yardage is from, and you got the same number. Therefore, I suppose that the 100 and 150 markers are to the center of the green.

Thanks very much. I looked at some of the other maps and while the yardages aren't always perfect they're close enough that these should be helpful (now that I can read them).

Looks like a great golf course. When playing a new golf course know where your best spot to miss and avoid big numbers.

1) keep below the hole when possible to putt uphill vs putting defensively downhill.
2) know where the out of bounce on each hole
3) when in doubt take more club and swing smoother
4) have fun

I had a great time but definitely did not break 100. The course was beautiful especially the 18th. I started off with a very strong, straight drive on the 1st tee, and it was downhill from there. The elevation changes were brutal.

These diagrams were marginally helpful. I just need to get better. Thanks for the help with them.
