After numerous delays I'm finally getting back in the game after 5-6 months of very limited play.

Snuck in 18 Sunday and 9 yesterday...dodging rain and wind.

Played 18 today at my new home course...perfect weather. Each round
is showing more promise.

Made my first eagle of 2010 today. No.13, par 5-533 yards. The drive was very poor leaving a tough lie...great recovery shot with 3-wood followed by a smooth 6iron that I was
trying to knock down through the gusty wind. Hit the front 1/3 of the green and rolled into the cup like a putt. Blind luck.

Here's the funny part...my poor drive was due to me trying to muscle it and keep up with my playing partners...both had hit very nice drives. They both fumbled their approaches, however, and either dunked it in the wash or came up well short of the elevated green. 4&6 shot difference in our scores.

I'll try to smooth out the driver swing.

I'm also going to get a lesson next week. Range membership will take away all the practice excuses.

Putting on the home course is going well...smooth bentgrass greens that are recovering nicely from being punched and sanded 5 weeks ago. This time next month the course will be perfect after the dormant grasses revive.

Eagles are a rare event for me....normally on much shorter par 5s. I'd say I've averaged one for every year I've played.

I've never dreamed of one on a hole that long. Plain old luck is all it was.

Maybe another one could be in store this year. My new track has 2 fives on the front and 3 on the back, also the 17th is a four of 297 yards with little trouble. The guys yesterday were left with simple chip shots for their seconds.

I hope today's round will be good...we have 3 foursomes checking out a sweet course in the country...an hour drive. Our hope is to recon it today & book tee times for Masters Week as all the nearby courses charge crazy $$$ for tee times that week. It's no biggie as it helps them be profitable and reduces
our annual dues.

So you took the plunge and joined BT? I've been hearing good things about the quality of their greens right now. The Patch is still in bad shape from the long hard Winter, but the greens are just beginning to show signs of life.

Great job on the eagle. I'm still waiting on one for this year. It's only a matter of time.

Congrats on the eagle! I have never carded one in my ~15 years of playing golf (despite my decent ball-striking). I have never holed out from the fairway, never hit a hole-in-one, and I never seem to play courses where I can reach the par 5s in 2 (they are usually 530+). It's kind of embarrassing...

Rexx...it will happen!!!

My eagle on Tuesday was simply blind luck....that made for some good laughs.

Yeah...I did on Monday. The greens were punched & sanded 5 weeks ago but are already rolling nicely. They would roll even better if everone repaired their ballmarks(pet peeve of mine). One thing that I see I'm missing since leaving the Fort is having marshalls monitor the pace of play. BT has been slooooow so far. I feel like it'll only be another 2 weeks and the fairways will green up. I'm free for an early round on Wednesday or anytime Thursday if you want to tee it up. Any idea what the Patch is charging for Master's weekend tee times?

I don't think they bump their prices up any? Traffic their during the week doesn't pick up all that much either. Busier than normal, but you can still easily walk on with minimal wait.

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
    • Day 136 12-26 Had a different practice planned today but life happened. Worked on "wide to wide" and still working on remaining flowy. Starting the club head in front of the ball as a drill, is helping with the flow of the swing.
