Hit demo day today at the range. Hit every iron they had. Was ready to buy, money in hand. Came home with nothing.

Here was the problem. I started hitting and slowly warmed up, but went thru a lot of balls. Suddenly my swing started clicking and I hit about 10 great shots with the X-22. I switched to the X-22 Tour and continued to hit beautiful 6-iron shots. Switched again to the Diablo forged and was still hitting them well.

I suddenly hit the wall. Arms a little tired, the clubs started to get away from me. I took a break, but came back with inconsistent hits. I had nothing left to go back and try to determine which clubs I liked better. Hung around while my buddy crushed the different drivers and then left.

They are back in about a month. I think next time I'll go and just grab those 3 clubs and hit 4 balls each club round robbin until I decide what I like. To be honest, they all felt great, although I do like the looks of the Tour and Diablo better, and the forged does feel sweet.

Cally did their homework. They have put out some really good stuff this year. I think that the Diablo Edge line really stands out.

There is going to be a demo day at the end of April and I am really interested in the X-22 sets. I'm just afraid of stepping up and shanking everything. I've never gone to a demo day, I've always hit at places like Golfsmith. How was the experience? Also, do they do swing analysis and custom fitting that day?

It was my first demo day and I was a little anxious as well. But no reason to be. They had 3 or 4 guys there working about 8 stations. Lots of people, lots of clubs. Got to the point where we were just grabbing a guy, saying hey get me an X-22 tour 8 iron, and then going and hitting balls. Very lax for sure. Go with a friend, makes it more fun. And for the shanks, always remember there will usually be someone better than you and someone much, much worse. :)

They had one station with the launch monitor, but using it mostly for drivers. They were set up for the full swing analysis and ready to fit anyone who was buying.

The range I went to has a demo day every Saturday. I may just make that one of my practice days, and hit balls for free while 'shopping' for clubs.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
