Well, I started golfing around the end of the season in 08, and of course I wasnt very good. My goal for last year was to get near a 10 handicap. At the very beginning of the season, I was burned from the knee down with molten metal at the refinery I worked in, (Im no longer there, after I healed I went full steam ahead with my own business, which I went to university for 5 years for).

So, with the 09 season torn away from me, I decided that this winter I would work on my swing with a local pro for the whole winter. Since the end of October, i've been meeting him 3 times a week, for two 1 hour sessions, and one half hour session on Saturday mornings.

All these lessons were indoors, as Canadian winters arent condusive to playing outdoors. But, we did have a very mild winter, and today I got to go out on the range at the course, instead of indoors.

It was awesome. I was averaging 310 yards with my driver, with a slight fade. It felt great to be outdoors playing, and see that all the time and money I put in to being a better player is paying off.

I know my game on the range and on the course will be different stories, and theres still about 3-4 weeks before the course is ddry enough to play on, but it definately felt good to hit drives that at the beginning of last year I thought were impossible.

Outside saturday again, working on irons, and I cant wait! Come on 2010 golf season!

Oh, and on a side note, I know that 310 seems long (especially looking at my HC), but I am 6'4", 235lbs, and keep myself in fantastic shape (being in shape is my job, I work swith athletic teams, mostly hockey, on dryland training and nutrtion). And theres a lot more to work on then just my driving distance.

I was hitting the range fence on 75+% of my shots, and the fence is set at 300 yards. Ball was on the way down hard when it would hit the fence.

And like I said, im very fit, and had 3 lessons a week, every week, since October. I was in the 275 range with my 'good' swings before I got lessons.

Indeed it is...you probably could have expected a worse beginning to the season, so at least you're in the right frame of mind. And, even if your first few rounds aren't good, you're investing in your game, so at some point there should be a return.

310 yd drive is insane - how's the game from within 100 yds? Also, how are you liking the Ping Rapture Driver? Is it the Composite 460 cc head, or the V2 version? Are the 3 and 5 woods as good as the Driver? I ask since I demo'd the older Composite Ping Rapture Driver and liked it a lot.

Oh, like I said in my first post, I have a lot more to work on than just my drives, my game inside 100 definately isnt spectacular, and putting is below average. Those things will be my main focus now that were on the final stretch to the course opening.

My Rapture is the composite 460, not the V2, and I love it. Seems to be very forgiving, and has great sound and feel. When I hit a good shot, I can tell on impact, without even looking at the ballflight. Before this, I owned a 909D3 and a G10. The G10 was a great club, but I gave it to my father when when he broke his driver, andI bought the 909 on a whim. Upon getting some time in with the 909, I realised I just didnt like the way the club felt, so I sold it to my little brother, and after trying many drivers, I settled on the Rapture, and have loved it every time I used it. My 3 wood was averaging 250-260yards, but we never took out the 5 wood. Saturday we will be practicing with Irons and wedges, and like I said, that is our main focus right now. And of course my putting. My stroke isnt bad, but I really need to learn to read greens better.

Oh, no big deal man, I totally understand that it sounds too good to be true, especially coming from someone you dont know, on the internet. So even if you were outright calling me a liar, I wouldn't take offense to it.

I dont do anything without putting whatever effort it takes for me to be the best I can be at it. The only thing more important to me than being a good athlete is my wife. I was lucky enough to be blessed with a good work ethic and great genetics, and I thank god for that every day. I only wish I had been smart enough to start playing this wonderful game back when I was a child.

yeah, people don't realize that it is easy for tall guys(i'm 6'5'') to hit it long. if you've got a good, repeatable swing and use momentum and minimal effort, a 275 yard carry doesn't really take much effort.
