Anyone out there currently hitting this driver? I was able to hit several balls into a launch monitor against my current driver (R7 425 TP - 85g shaft) and was hoping to be blown away. I tested a 8.5 degree, 65g R9 TP with stock weight configuration.

In the end, I felt the new R9 lacked the solid feeling of the R7 TP. Ball speed and launch angle were similar, with a bit of improvement in RPM. Overall distance was less than my current driver.

Any thoughts from others?

I hit this driver not long ago, got the rep to build me the club that would suit me best, was at a driving range with a launch mointer.

I got fitted for a TP 7.5 Fubki fubuki shaft, he told me this was the combo that was going to work best for me. Still i did not like this driver, it lacked felling and the sound was horrible!

Taylormade gear is becoming a joke now, new gear every 3 months or less, it's dumb! If anything the clubs are getting worse, the 425 quad tp was the best driver I ever hit, burnner was still good, but diddent have that "wow" factor, the new driver is again a downgrade of the burner.

I used to be a big fan of taylormade gear, not so much anymore!

I agree with you on the feel and the sound... and yes, it seems Taylormade spits out a new driver as often as the tabloids spin new issues... Talk about a short product life cycle, it's pretty ridiculous. Thanks for reaffirming my love for my 425 TP. Looks like it's going to get refinished and stay in the bag for a while.

I just got fitted for my Taylor Made stuff last night, have to say don't think thers much difference between the supertri and "old" R9 stuff. I did like it though got the 9.5 with X in the 60g shaft, it really seemed to bore through the wind and there was a lot last night! I used to have a superquad but wasn't overly impressed with it apart from the flight of the ball. the super tri is as close as you will get to it looks wise though.

I hit it...

... Loved the look of it, but didn't love the feel it gave me.

I just recently hit both the R9 Supertri TP and last year's R9 TP, I preferred last year's R9 TP and ended up buying it. I used to hit an R7 425 TP.

The feel of the Supertri wasn't horrible, but it just wasn't quite all there, if that makes sense.

I used to be taylormade every time but now im changing rapidly over to titleist because they make good equiptment

I agree. For whatever reason, the supertri doesn't come through the ball as solidly as other TM drivers.
