I know the website states the 56 is a little shorter with a lot more spin in the short irons, but does anyone here have some real world experience in the comparison? I read the review and that was definately helpful, but I'm wondering if anyone can elaborate on just how much shorter it is off the driver, how it plays in the mid or long irons, or maybe how it compares to the ProV1 or the TP.Red in these categories? The other question was related to durability, is it any worse than the HX.Tour? I'd guess they would be about the same. It certainly isn't that the HX Tour isn't soft enough, just trying to understand the differences.

I went to the HX Tour to get more distance off the tee with "adequate" spin. I have not played the 56, but I suspect it would have more spin than a 6-12 handicapper might want. The HX Tour pretty much stays where you put it, and can release a little, or spin back some, if you hit it corrrectly to get that result. For what it is worth, Phil Mickleson and Michael Campbell play the HX Tour "off the rack".

With chips and pitches the HX Tour has enough check to provide control, but not so much spin that the margin for error is beyond what a mid-handicapper can tolerate. It also spins enough to shape a shot. I would not give up a yard of distance to get spin I dont need.

I'll be interested to see if anyone who plays the 56 chimes in here.

I play the HX Tour almost always. I've tried the 56 and didn't notice much difference. It was a tad shorter but minimal. I hit the ball plenty high and wasn't looking for more spin so I stick with the HX Tour. I would think that most players wouldn't notice any difference.

Here's where I thought Phil hit the 56. Here too. And, ironically, here . It appears he's switched to the Tour this year though, so I'm just a little behind

Then perhaps TGC simply doesn't decipher between models. I might expect to see "Titleist Pro V1" for all V1x players and "Bridgestone B330" for all B330s Players and "TaylorMade TP" for all TaylorMade TP Red/Black players.

I thought Phil was playing the lower-spin version, but maybe not. One would think he would get it right on his own site, so, the 56 it must be.

I play the 56 and used to play the HX reg. but it used to get beat up to fast and the 56 seems to last longer for me anyway.HXtour is a little longer and it is also a little more off white than the 56.

    • What's the rest of that story? Where was the ball going?
    • The criticisms are starting already 🤣 U.S. Open pro criticizes Shinnecock green conditions: 'Bumpy' After playing his first practice round at the 2026 U.S. Open, Michael Kim offered a less-than-glowing review of Shinnecock's "bumpy" greens.   The sand, I don't care about that. If the greens didn't come back as well for latest aerification, that would be a bit of a blunder on Shinnecock I think.
    • Well, if your frame of reference spins twice during the swing, then Bryson's ab/adduction is more like 780 degrees so there! (Yes I'm being silly, but not sure it's any sillier than what your pal Andy is doing...)
    • Update: Brandon Sorsby has decided to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft. He will not play for Texas Tech in the upcoming season.  From my perspective, I think he did the right thing. I hope he gets the correct help for his gambling addiction. I say the right thing, because I would be worried that the stress from all of this now and throughout the entire year would not be beneficial towards his mental health.  If an NFL team picks him up, then there really isn't any pressure for him to play immediately. He can work on himself and his game for the NFL.  From Texas Tech,  "Texas Tech will continue to provide the support and recovery resources Brendan requires on this journey. Furthermore, Texas Tech will not seek return of any amounts already paid to Brendan through his NIL agreements with the University," Campbell wrote. "We wish our best to Brendan, and we offer our prayers to him and his family as he chases his dreams at the next level. This has been an unbelievably painful experience for us all, but I know that his true, underlying character and lessons learned through this experience will ultimately bring him great success on the field of play and in life." Which, I also the right thing to do.
