I had a question on putting rules. Lets say I am 2 feet away from the hole and I dont want to make a backstroke on my putter. Can I just push it in ? I find that easier to control rather than taking the putter back. I feel I use my hands too much if I move the putter back. This buddy of mine was accusing me of cheating, so I am not sure if thats cheating or not. What's your take on this ?

By pushing do you mean your putter is literally guide it along down your bath touching it the whole way, or just no backstroke making contact and letting it roll. The first situation would be illegal and the second would be perfectly fine.

"The ball must be fairly struck at with the head of the club and must not be pushed, scraped or spooned."

You could put the club lets say 2 inches behind the ball and strike at it. But if you place the ball, while at rest behind the ball and push it toward the target with the intent to guide it, its not allowed.

A "push stroke" would entail a one stroke penalty and the ball must be replaced and replayed.

The latter, just making contact and letting it roll in.

    • I appreciate that you have taken the time to come back and update. Based on what was previously discussed I feel like the points were; forged, feel good, price, and possibly players distance. If you like the "looks" of those Maxfli irons and if price is a major point, then going straight to the source, Maltby, might make sense. Specifically, the TS3 iron. I was looking into this myself and found some reviews: Fit2YouGolf, Lets Play Thru, and ELITE FIT GOLF. As per your update I found the Maxfli to be ~$1300 fitted the way I wanted. Where the TS3 with the same fitting and assembled by Golfworks was less than $750. I suppose the downside is to actually hit the iron you will need to get lucky and find someone in your golf circle who will let you hit theirs or order a 6 or 7 iron to test. However, the way I look at that is being equivalent to some fittings. If you like the results and buy, then the fitting is free, otherwise the price of the fitting is a sunk cost. If name brand is important, then I submit for your consideration - THE BEST OVERALL IRON of 2024...... FACT !! 😉 A bit tongue in cheek that but also, I feel some good points were discussed.
    • Day 150 1-10 focus on arching the wrist and getting the ball to go left. Recorded, hit foam balls.
    • Day 467 - 2026-01-10 Practiced at Pinehurst every day I was there, and before Junior Elite this morning I got fifteen minutes of backswing checks in the mirror in.
