OK, golf is pretty fun as it is, all by itself...but the game just lends itself to having more fun in the whole environment. I've laughed more during/after golf than I have at any other sport. Anyway, here's a story from about 3 years back that still makes my golf buddies and I laugh.

We were playing at a local course that's pretty tree-lined with tall rough (lots of lost balls). I found a ball on the first hole that someone had written "ROCKY" on with a fat red pen. The writing was so big it looked like a 1st grader did it. I threw it in my bag for laughs. I show it to my friends on the green and one of them pulls out a "ROCKY" ball he found. We are laughing pretty good now. So the rest of the round all four of us are looking for rocky balls the whole way. By the end of the round we had 14, count em, FOURTEEN "Rocky" balls, all with the fat red writing.

It was a nice day and the 19th hole was packed. I get there and yell "HEY, is Rocky here?" Sure enough, there he was "Yeah, that's me." I said "We found some of your balls" and dumped all 14 on him. I don't know who laughed harder, us, or his buddies...but that was a riot. I suppose he was happy to get his balls back.

OK, so two stories. Another time, at a club tournament, a guy was riding single. His back was messed up and he was complaining about the pain for the first few holes. We get to seven and he says "going to the bathroom" and just floors it and makes a bee-line for a portapotty. I mean he was MOVING. Now since we all take a leak wherever it was obvious he had some business with #2 and it was obviously reaching defcon 4 levels. He was so focused on the portapotty he didnt see the draining ditch crossing his path and hit it full speed. The cart went flying down then up, the landed with a BOOM and got stuck. The poor guy wrecked his back even more and...well...I can only hope he didn't crap his pants, but...he did just drive off and quit after that, so who knows. That story is only funny because the guy is such a jerk - some karma was at play there for sure.

That Rocky story is hilarious. A buddy of mine was having a "Rocky" type round one day, so on the 13th hole he writes "If you find this, please don't play with my balls" on his ball before hitting his tee shot, sure enough he slices it off into the woods never to be seen again. Hopefully someone at least got a laugh out of it, when they found it.

Hahaha, that's a brilliant story. I've had a few Rocky rounds before, just not that many. 5 or 6 perhaps. Just one of those rounds where you are so adamant that you can make the shot, that you just keep going for it, before eventually laying up.

That is a funny story about Rocky. I always like playing with my dad because he has a horrible slice, so we spend a lot of time in the woods and I get to find golf balls.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
