I'm not really on board with "I can't beat LT" Jerry taking a spot in the field, but I was actually pretty impressed that he put together a decent back 9 (at least until the 9th, which was his last hole). Any thoughts? I respect his competitiveness and as my buddies have told me all day, if someone presented me this opportunity I'd probably take it as well, but if he really thought he had a chance to make the cut he had to be crazy. A 3ish handicapper has no business being in a Hooters tour field let alone the Nationwide. Although, I followed this first day more than any other Nationwide tournament combined, at least since Jason Gore was tearing it up.

Hopefully he takes something from this and waits until his game is legit before he comes back out for what will probably be the CHampions Tour at that point (if ever). Any thoughts? Anyone watch?

Another thing... I mentioned I don't normally follow the Nationwide... I couldn't believe how many names and former very decent golfers are playing this weekend and I assume on the Nationwide tour. Lickliter, Len Mattiace, Esteban Toledo, Steve Pate, Jason Gore, Stankowski, Jonathan Kaye, Bob May, Brendt Jobe, Skip Kendall...

yeah, i'm watching it right now. he's actually not too bad of a ball striker, but his putting sucks. i'm sure it's got a lot to do with this being his first golf tournament playing head up with pro's, so i hesitate to say that i'd do any better on the greens.

I think it is a good thing he is playing out there for 1 reason, exposure! Just like the original post said he usually doesnt follow the nationwide tour. If Jerry Rice can get the nationwide tour exposure it could mean good things for the other players, like bigger prize money and maybe more sponserships!

I wasn't impressed with Rice, his swing is a joke, especially with the driver, he needs to stick with retirement and keep on the AM side of tournaments end of story, lol

After watching him on Trump's World of Golf, I knew he wouldn't do much against the pros, but that's OK. Does make it more interesting to watch, for sure.

An interesting sidelight: I checked his average driving distance for day one on PGAtour.com. It was 255 yards. I also checked some of the other pros, mainly concentrating on the shorter hitters I knew of, like Len Mattiace, Esteban Toledo. They were hitting it over 270. Maybe Jerry should get some advice from the 280 yard knockers here in the SandTrap>

    • That was a good watch. When I started working on pelvis in the backswing. I thought, this sounds contradictory to those leg straightening threads on the site. Erik has already done a correction. Then the last lesson we went more down the route of feeling the right knee gains flex. It doesn’t, but the feeling keeps my knee position in a good range. Also, I just realized how much extra work my right hip needed to do to stabilize the body with the proper weight shift. Those glute and hip stabilizers got worked. 🤣 I wish this evolution in the golf instruction happened 20 years ago! 😭
    • I've been Playing Golf for: 40 yrs My current handicap index or average score is: 4.0 factor My typical ball flight is: Straight however sometimes slight draw. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: squirt to the right due to to much arm not enough turn. • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
