Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum, as I've been away from golf for a couple of years. But now that I'm back, I'm looking to upgrade my bag...at least my irons. I've been reading other threads on this forum, and everyone seems to be pretty knowledgable on this excessive amount of new equipment.

I'm still playing a set of Titleist DCI 962s PW - 2 iron and I want something that gives me great feel yet still reserving a tad bit of forgiveness (not too much though). I hit the ball high and pretty solid with good distance (5 iron=195 yds), and I'm looking for a player's club that feels good and that I can work to update my set.

I've been hitting the Titleist 695 MB and CB, Mizuno MP 32 and Macgregor V-Foil M675. I'm also looking at the Titleist 735CM. Does anybody have any suggestions for me? My preliminary findings are that the Titliest 695MB is a little too unforgiving for me (as it feels horrible on a mishit) but all of the others feel great. However I haven't had the opportunity to hit any on the range, only at my local golfshop.

Thanks to anyone that can give me some feedback on their experiences with these irons (especially the Macregor's and Titleist 735CM), or any others worthy of mention.

i went through a similar experience recently. my cavity backs where giving me fits because i could never "feel" a bad shot just saw the results but not having a clue why it was mishit.

i went and tested a whole lot of clubs. everything from cleveland to titleist. just my experience was this:

titleist: great clubs, lots of feel, i actually hit the 695MB better than the 735CM, the 735s just felt clunky to me for some reason.

clevelands: couldn't hit any of their clubs for some reason

callaways: never felt any hit, hit the xtours or whatever the newest forged club they have and all i can say is i hit a six iron ten times straight and ten times it hit the top netting everytime before it even hit the back wall.

taylormade: loved the rac LTs, forgiving, gave pretty good feedback and was priced well

ping: hit the i5, liked them alot too. my only problem is on the range i lost tons of distance b/c of ballooning of the ball on every shot

mizunos: hit the MP-32 and MP-60, hated the way the 32s felt on mishits, but fell in love with the 60s, 60s have feel and forgiveness.

in the end, i chose the Mizuno MP-60s b/c A) loved the feel B) bought a slightly used set (played twice) for a good price and they turned out being almost an exact match without any tweaking by the club fitter. when i upgrade my irons after the 60s wear out, i will look at mizuno again.

in closing: i like mizunos or the titleist clubs the most if you are looking for a feel club and wanting a little forgiveness. these are just a few opinions. if you would like more details, i would be glad to give you some, just shot an email and i'll reply with everything that i can specifically remember about each club i hit.

I bought the Taylormade RAC HT's when they were on clearance, and I immediately noticed a difference from my Wilson's I bought in 1998.

I played DCI's, 845's, and x-14's before switching to my mizuno MP-30's. They are forgiving, yet very feel oriented. I am an avid supporter and advocate for Mizuno irons. I have not hit the 60's, but liked the MP-30's better than the MP-32's for not completely pured shots.

I can tell you the Nike pro combos that I hit are real nice and the set is being redesigned again for 2007. The are a progressive set like the 735CM which is nice for people that like the blade feel in the shorter irons but the cavity forgiveness in the longer.
In addition, I hit the new redesigned Ping S59 irons. They are really nice and are Ping's real attempt at a "blade" feel with more forgiveness in the longer irons. I will have to hit these some more, but if first indications are true these may end up in the bag for 2007.

    • I think you're saying it's preposterous to think that the areas on this club are anything like what's shown here: 30mm toward the toe or heel loses only 5% distance? Highly, highly doubtful. So a guy who hits the ball there and normally hits the ball about 250… will hit it instead about 238. By missing the sweet spot by about 1.2 inches? Highly, highly doubtful. Heck, the high heel barely gets into the red, and orange is only "up to" 10%! @M2R, I've never heard of "Ask Golf Nut" but I'm dubious of his claims in the video and really, really dubious of what's on his site: "Why AskGolfNut Is the Most Trusted Data-Driven Golf Resource". Hmmmmmm.
    • Day 151 1-11 flow work today. I've been doing all pause work, so Inwanted to get some rhythm going. Recorded.
    • a) No b) This MLR says: I doubt the MLR is going to affect their weekly league games, in other words.
    • So the question was posed today by some of my friends.  Is a pitch mark the same as a divot?  I thought NO, but they argued if your ball lands in another player's divot (made by club during a swing) this was the same as a pitch mark, i.e. the ball mark made when the ball lands
    • Original definition use to or still is how far offline you hit it. It might be better to think of it as consistency in retaining favorable launch conditions to optimize distance.   That heat map showed a gigantic 0-3% loss in ball speed. That is absurd. The true 100% sweet spot is tiny for all clubs. Good luck telling the difference if the sweet spot is under 3% in a sizable area. Especially considering variation in launch angle, spin, and outdoor weather.
