Hello all, I'm 24 years old and have decided to pick up golf. Right now I'm a full time student so unfortunately my budget is very limited I have been waiting for something amazing on craigslist, but so far most of the clubs that have been put up are too old for me to find reviews about on this vast internet of ours. I will be taking a golf class at college during the fall and plan on playing lightly for the next year or two(probably most of my time will be at a driving range and playing a full game once every month or two) until I can upgrade.

So after that long winded post my question is since my budget is around $100 would either of these sets of clubs last me a year or two while I learn how to play the game?

Thank you very much for your time and responses

If you are just starting out and have never taken a swing in your life, the clubs you get really aren't going to make that much of a difference as long as they are "roughly" fitted to you. What I mean by that is that you aren't buying blades with X-stiff shafts or buying cut-down ladies clubs. A lot of people on here might disagree with me, but both those sets look more than good enough for what you are describing. The last thing you want to do is go get fitted for $1,000 worth of clubs and then realize a year from now that you don't want to play anymore. Spend $100 now and just go have fun. If you end up getting more serious and developing a better swing, go buy an expensive set then.

You should do some searching around the forum, this is not an uncommon question and I think you'll find a bunch of good threads on this subject. I personally think people are better off investing money on a set of good used clubs, like these . But there are differing opinions on this, some people say a box set for a year is the way to go. Good luck on your search!

Not a bad idea at all. Don't go spending a fortune on clubs only to stop playing in a couple of months. If you get serious later on, you can upgrade and give the beginner set to a friend.

While I don't disagree with spending a fortune on your clubs, I'm personally a big fan of investing (not necessarily financially but emotionally) into a hobby. With that said, like msd3075 has stated, the clubs you get now won't make much of a difference. You need to get a feel for how the mechanics of your body and a proper golf swing works before you can start nit picking the different features a club has.

To be honest, I'm not familiar with either of the sets that you posted via Amazon, but I will suggest that you look into purchasing a used set rather than new. A used set will be significantly cheaper and you can use them long term instead of having to replace them later on.

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
