nope, at least not in the UK it isnt. at my club you sign the handicap book stating your intention to play a handicap round from the medal/competition tees. also at my track they must be played in a minimum of twos & be with another member. you may submit 10 cards a year to get your handicap. competition rounds do count but remember there are many ways to submit rounds to achieve a handicap, hope you have great rounds when you putthe scores in!!

You can post any stroke play round I believe unless it is a scramble or alternate shot. Obviously, competition rounds are the most accurate as you have to play everything out, but the handicap committee will not get on your case if you take a couple "gimmes" during the round and still post as long as you abide by the other rules.

It doesn't even have to be 18 holes either. After 13 holes you can post 18 by filling in the rest of the scorecard with what the handicap of each hole says you should make. (Ex. If I left after 16 and the 17th hole was the #7 handicap and the 18th hole was the #1 handicap then I would put down par and bogey for those two holes)
