I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a good wedge for a high handicap golfer. I was looking to possibly get a Titleist or a Cleveland, but are there some models that are easier to hit than others?

Thanks!

cleveland CG11 are great wedges for higher handicapers. Similar feel to the CG10 but with a cavity back and wider sole. (easier to hit) wider sole helps out of bunkers.

Thanks for the reply Boofyshank!.I'll look into those wedges.

I have also been reading up on wedges as of late, and I have heard about different bounces available. Would a 10 or a 12 be good for a higher handicap? and is the same bounce good for all wedges?

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Bounce actually has to do with the turf conditions you play in. For instance a CG11 1 Dot is meant for tighter lies and firm turf. The 3 Dot on the other hand is meant to be played in bunkers or softer conditions.

Driver: HiBore 9.5°, UST ProForce V2 67g
Woods: Launcher Steel 15°
Hybrid: Halo 2i 19°, 3i 22°
Irons: CG4 4-PW
Wedges: CG10 52°, 56° Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport 2 Balls: NXT Tour, Pro V1, Nike One, Callaway HX

Low Bounce is good for shots from tight lies and hard conditions. less bounce lowers the leading edge of the blade. This makes it heaps easier to open the face and hit high. High Bounce is designed for play out of bunkers and really soft lies. The bounce angle stops the club digging in. High bounce is probably easier to hit sand shots. If your a poor bunker player i would look at something with some bounce. Otherwise a standard bounce level will be ok. Get some good wedges and then go practise. Good wedges help but you can still have a double hit flub that lands on your left foot with a $300 wedge.

Great info, thanks alot guys!

It sounds like it might be beneficial do have one of each wedge so I'll have something to play when im in close regardless of the lie.

What is considered "high" bounce for a wedge? 12?

If I were to get 2 wedges, one of them being a SW, what would be the best loft for the other wedge to fill the distance gap? I see people generally go for a 52-56, so I was kinda thinking along those lines.

Thanks again for the info guys!

Brief article here on bounce. Also, check out the Reviews section for more information on the wedges you are looking at. You can also check out the Wedges PDF on the Titleist website as it gives a good desciption about the different bounce options available. Good luck in your search.

Great info, thanks alot guys!

I would go for something 52-53 degrees, also known as "gap" or "approach" wedges. These do a pretty good job filling the gap between the sand and pitching wedges, which I know for me, is generally much larger than my other clubs. In my opinion, the bounce on the gap wedge should be at about standard (unless the fairways at your homecourse are rock hard, in which case get minimal bounce) because you're generally never going to play it out of bunkers, or in places where that extra bounce is going to do anything but hurt you.

Thanks for the info! I'll look at picking up a 52. Those CG11's sounds like pretty solid wedges.

So are you saying that the Titleist might be the better way to go? or that you love your Cleveland, but you would rather play your Titleist cause its a Titleist? Is the Titleist as forgiving as the CG11 for a high handicapper?
