Fred Couples asks Tom, when you are hitting a 3 iron are you trying to hit it close or just get it on the green.

Tom, Fred i am just trying to get it on the green.

Fred, Whooo, i am glad i think the same way as well

If two of the best golfers of all time think that a 3 iron is good enough to just get on the putting surface, then its good enough for use to give us a chance for up and down. Don't beat your self over with not being perfect. I use to play golf when i had a pin placement on the right, i was hitting a mid iron, i pull to the left side, but i had 30 feet for birdie, that would tick me off so much. Thats not a way to play, don't be mad at everything you do, just take what the game gives you.

The only shot that gets me angry in golf, duck hook. I hate the feeling so much. Other than that, i don't get upset. Just do what you can.

I just saw that too. Great advice. After watching pros at the Zurich Classic this week it's obvious that they have great long games. Getting it close enough to either chip up or putt on the long shots makes a big difference in scoring.

I actually made a mental note after seeing Tom's statement that for me, I should expand that out to a four or five iron. If I can get it on the green with a five iron most of the time I'll be very happy and improve my scoring.

If I hit anything from a 2-5 it is at least 185 away, so getting on the green is great if it happens to get close then that's super. I would much rather have a 30-40 2 putt then worrying about getting up and down.
