I have been looking at some iron sets online and checking some static fitting #s. I'm 6'3" with a 38" wrist to floor. With most brands and generic club fitting tables I come up with +1" and 1-2deg upright. Ping's dynamic fitting puts me at +1/2" and 3.75" upright.

Why is Ping's static fitting so much different? Is it the design of the clubs? Are they meant to be played with a more vertical swing plane?

I'm probably going to a Ping demo day tomorrow to get dynamically fitted so maybe these static #s will go out the window. I just find it interesting that the #s are so different.

Anyone know if Ping demo day events have free fittings?

Different brands should be very close on club length, but the lie could be different.

In my experience, the "web-fit" static fitting is largely irrelevant. My specs were suggested as -1/2" and 3.75* flat. A dynamic fitting put me at regular length, 0.75* flat.

The last Ping demo day I attended performed a free driver and fairway fitting (but that was in the UK).

The biggest thing to keep in mind is that each manufacture can have a different 'standard' of lie and length. So someone might be 1º flat on Ping, but need 2º upright for Mizuno, it just depends on where the adjustment starts.

The best thing to do is to get the actual number. Let's say club ABC has a 6-iron that is 62º lie angle and is 37.5" long. Whatever you are fitted for off that you need to adjust with other clubs. So you might need a 61º lie and 38" club. Just find out what the clubs original specs are and then you can make the adjustment from there.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Also, different clubs and shaft will react differently when loaded. I know nothing about the stock steel shafts offered by ping, but perhaps they deflect downward more than standard true-tempers found in many other sets, resulting in more upright fitting?

I would recommend going in to get fitted. I was like a white using static, but my fitting put me at a black.

So I went to the Ping Demo Day yesterday and found out I'm a green dot (+2.25deg) and +1/2".

I asked this question to the Ping rep and he said Ping prefers to adjust the lie angle first and length second, whereas most other companies do the opposite.

I am White Dot (3* up) and +1/2". I was different for Mizunos. Which irons are you planning on getting then?

I liked the G15s I hit but I might go for some used G5/G10s cause I'm not sure my scores can justify the price of the G15s.

Just purchased some G5's. The online fitting is fun, but I had different results once I went into the store. I was told G5's will be gone after this year, so If you want some, I would get them. They were a pretty good deal. And just an FYI, the golf shop I bought them from just called me and said PING has been swamped with G5 orders, and they are about 1-1/2 weeks behind. It doesn't hurt me any though...I was renting clubs before this anyways! LOL

Fittings for lie angle can be tricky. I was fitted first at 2 degrees flat and Im 5'9. It got me thinking that my set up it probably off because Ive noticed I have my hands really low at address. Sure enough I read up on it and I was too low cause me to be flat. I fixed it and got fitted again and was 1/4 upright at one place, I then left and got fitted somewhere else to make sure. They said I was standard lie. So I went with standard. My point is unless you have a very fixed swing that is really working for you, dont put any drastic bends on your clubs.

I got fitted for some Mizuno MX200's a year or so ago, results were telling me that I needed 1 degree flat. Having spent a year not really getting on with them I recently swapped out for some new Ping i15's. The online fitting suggested I needed 2 degrees upright!!
Went to my pro who had some i15's in stock and I purchased them. Black dot, regular everything. He said to try them for a month or two and if I wanted anything altering to go back and see him and he would sort it out with Ping. I've been playing them for 2 months now and won't be going back. I hit them beautifully, much better than my Mizuno's. I was pushing the Mizuno's when I got them. Everything was going right. Which indicated to me that they were too flat. But what do I know?
