Hips open, shoudlers closed at impact.
Is this what should happen to hit a draw. If the shoulders are open at impact im guessing slice or pull hook???
Just after confirmation guys

Although some players have open shoulders at impact, it definitely will lend itself to starting left. Whether it be a dead pull or slice depends on whether the face has been released. Having your shoulders closed at impact will promote hitting a draw.

Are you Gumby? I can't imagine something in a golf swing that over time would be harder on your lower back, including the reverse-C finish that hobbled so many championship layers. Just thinking about it scares me. There are better ways to hit a draw.

I'm having trouble with this. My shoulders always end up too open at impact, are there any ways to help keep them closed or something you should feel?

What I Play:

Someone correct me here if I'm wrong, but I'm operating under the impression that my shoulders have to be 10 degrees or so open at impact in order to swing the club properly and consistently. If they're square to the target line or even closed to it, the only way you can get to the ball is by using your arms and hands. But when I "release" my trail shoulder down and through the shot, my arms and hands arrive at impact without flipping. So in releasing this trail shoulder, the shoulders will be open at impact to some degree. Obviously I'm assuming I got to my left side via a solid hip slide at this point already.

At least that's what I'm trying to do when I go to the range. Someone rescue me if they disagree.

well i'm not sure if they literally have to be closed but i think you're right JetFan, just a little open.

Do they have to be literally shut to the target line at impact. No. Is it a good swing thought for most Am's, yes. The truth is , that many players throw the left shoulder (for righties) open at impact which is one of the many reasons for a pull slice. If you want to start hitting a draw, think to keep your right shoulder back as long as possible.

Can you explain this more in depth and not with feel?

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
