Does anyone know the degree of bounce an 09 Burner Lob (60 degree) wedge has? All I can find is that it is "standard" and all companies seem to have their own version of standard..
It would be nice to have this for a matching set but I want around a 7-8 degree of bounce. I'm also looking at Vokey and Scratch, which have that degree.
Thanks, Bill

To be honest, I wouldn't look at the Burner at all. Those wedges are like shovels! They don't go through the rough/dirt/sand very easily, so it's harder to play a softer green side shot or that 30-40 yard pitch shot from a tight fairway lie. Go with the Vokey, Cleveland or a TM RAC and you'll be much happier. :thu:

I'm with zilla...kind of. My current set of clubs are the '09 Burner with PW, AW, and SW. I don't agree that they're any harder to play than a Vokey or Cleveland. The wedges play fine out of the rough - I know, I spend a lot of time in there. The SW plays fine out of the bunker - I know, I spend a lot of time in there too. And, they're fine off of tight lies.

With that said, if you're adding to your set or replacing a worn wedge, then a Vokey or Cleveland may be a better option for a couple reasons: First, you can customize loft and bounce to fit your preference, something you can't do with the Burners. Second, the groves on these wedges, especially the Vokeys, are incredible.

I'll be replacing my wedges soon with some Vokey Spin Milled but not because of any deficiency in the Burners, it's just the grooves are practically gone on my PW and the SW and AW aren't too far behind. I chose the Vokey because after demoing a bunch of clubs, I liked the grooves on the Vokey the best.

Check your local area to see if there are any demo centers or demo days upcoming. It's a great way to get your hands on a bunch of different clubs and find out for yourself

Whoever came up with the saying, "A bad day of golf is better than a good day at work", is a moron.

Thanks everyone,

I do agree that a Vokey or Cleveland 60 degree would give me more options in degree of bounce, but was just curious if anyone knew what the bounce was for the standard lob wedge for Burners. I have a GolfSmith store in Saint Paul (about 40 min away) that I think I will go to and just hit some and see what is best for me.

Thanks again,

Bill

I'd get one of those instead of the burner wedge
I like vokeys, i like clevelands, i like TMs, i like scratches
ALl the wedges are good these days its just your preference for how they look at address
my buddy bought that TM wedge yesterday and its really nice, the face is really rough. it shreds Prov1xs which can be annoying having to buy new ones all the time but i guess most new wedges these days will do that

Went to the TaylorMade site, and the iron specs do not list bounce. You might contact them direct.

    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
