I'm 18 years old, Today at my local course I shot a +15 over par (33pts) in a competition and I felt gutted after my round, only 2 days ago I played a practice round with my cousin and I shot +1 over the 18 holes.

I can't explain it, I didn't even feel nervous on the course, I just kept 3 putting from everywhere, I completely lost all feel around the greens, I got off to a good start with 5 pars and a birdie then after that my whole round just crashed and I didn't make a single par for the rest of the round, I was fuming, I keep hitting my drives dead down the middle 280+ then hitting an iron to the green, on for birdie and just 3 put, every put for par just kept lipping out of the hole, not only that but I was chaning my putter stroke on nearly every hole just to find something, but it only got worse.

I guess this last year of grinding practice for me with my ballstriking really means nothing if I cant putt, I deserve it tbh, I spent way to much time practicing ballstriking, and hardly no time on the putting green.

Alot of the guys at the club couldn't believe how bad I played after seeing my in the range this morning, I got complemented by many people on how well I was hitting the ball, they were even joking around saying to me ''so when you turning pro'' or ''how is your handicap only 11?''

The old saying is right ''Drive for show, put for dough''

If anyone has any goodtips for putting to get in a good routine or any good tips for pace putting I would much appreciate it thanks

Sorry to hear, but at least you know what to work on now. I think that's why it's good to play some competitive golf...it exposes the weaknesses in one's game.

I am no one to be offering putting advice, but there is one thing that I always come back to: keep my head down all the way through the stroke. I was doing this today; literally waiting to hear the ball hit the hole before I picked up my head. It's the only thought that has ever brought any consistency to my putting.

Just my .02 but good luck and I am envious of your ballstriking prowess . My irons are an absolute joke lately.

Practice, practice. There are a lot of approaches to putting you just have to find the right feel. A reverse overlap grip may work for you. I like to make sure my right hand is in control. Some people like to go straight back and forward others like a slight arc to their stroke. Some golfers put a little forward press in their strokes. Do some experimentation, read some tips and try things out. Then again, don't let one bad day make you dismantle a good thing. Some days we just don't have it and just need one slight adjustment.

Thanks for the tips guys, I think my main problem with putting is that I have no routine what so ever unlike my full shots where I will do two short practice swings, stand behind the ball, get my grip in place and slowly walk in to the shot, with putting I usually just read line from one angle, step right up and hit it

Im going to work on my routine tomorrow when I get to the practice green :)

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.

    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
    • Day 126 12-16 Back swing and rotation work today. Didn't hit any balls. Focusing on rotating and getting to lead side.
