A lot of the times I am very inconsistent with my iron/driver/wood shots. Some will slice, some will draw and some will be straight but not where I was aiming. Will my control be better if I try and slow down my back swing? Then once I am more consistent speed it back up? Thanks in advance for any help.

If you get a random assortment of shots, then that could be (among a various other possible cause) your wrists flipping at the top because of a jerky transition. So yes, slowing down the backswing can help if that makes your hands "quieter" at the top.

It certainly helped me.

I'd say post a swing video, your backswing mightn't be the main problem.

A couple of years ago, I was considering getting new irons. Slow day at the golf shop, and the club fitter was a retired junior high school teacher and golf coach.

He puts me on the launch monitor, and here's what I found out: If my swing tempo was 1.6 seconds, I hit the 5 iron about 10 yards farther than if I had a 1.4 second tempo.
(Swing tempo = time from start of takeaway to impact)

For any golfer, the number of foot-pounds of pressure in your backswing doesn't help the ball go forward. I would suggest that with a slower backswing, you are more likely to fully coil into your position at the top, and have a balanced transfer of momentum into a downswing.

Haven't heard too may golfers bragging about how a quicker backswing helped their game.

Focus, connect and follow through!
