Has anyone tried an under 300 gram total weight 46" or longer driver driver yet? Due to terrible lack of Spring weather in NW PA ,I have just started using mine ( Mizuno MX-560-12* with 50g Exsar light shaft and Winn Lite grip(25g)-Total weight of club 276 g) and the results are tremendous. Longer and straighter than any other driver in my arsenal.

Nope, mines 330g on the button at 44" and works perfect for me now, took a little time to get use to the lighter weight, but now I'm averaging 265 to 275 yards and usually down the middle

The rule of thumb is that the better the player, the shorter and heavier the driver. That's not because better players prefer them, but because no one can control a long, light driver very well. I use a 44", 355g driver.

If a longer, lighter driver is straighter than a shorter heavier one for you, you need to check your driver swing. It's almost assured you're not catching the center of the face with any regularity.

Golf Professional,so I do not have USGA Handicap. Age and arthritis has shortened my length off tee a lot and this combination of length and weight has added needed yards . The balls goes straighter, becasue I can swing the club and not jump out of my shoes trying to hit the ball futher.

to each his own i guess. i do hit the center area mostly. i can tell by the soft impression of the ball. more like a smudge. the central area with no grooves. thats where i hit the ball. with the driver at least.

There was nothing sweeter than the sound of a balata ball coming off a persimmon head driver. However, those days are long gone! I gave up on sound with the advent of metal woods and solid balls.(as long as sound isn't a clunk)

I doubt that you hit it regularly, and I've seen your swing. It's not by any means a bad swing, but good enough to hit the driver on center every time? No. Heck, I don't hit the center of the driver all the time, not even most of the time; most people don't. Put some tape on the face, and hit 20 balls or so, and see how many are dead center. Even 1" off center is costing you 20 yards. Players who hit the center of the face every time develop large wear spots, brown or gray, on the middle of their faces. If you watch the PGA tour, pay attention to their wood faces. They have nice little spots right on the faces of the woods that have been in play a while.

This.

I cut 1" off of my dymo 2 this weekend. It now plays at 44.75". Went out Sunday after the cut down and hit 10 out of 14 fw's. Normaly would hit about 6 per 18. Not only did I hit more fw's, I was hitting it farther.

I'd say that's maybe even an underestimate on the distance loss.

I wasn't sure why they made the shaft on the G10 so long (I choke down and I'm > 6' 1") but apparently some people are asking for them. Meh.

It helps them with marketing. "Thus club is 20 yards farther than your current driver." Most amatures are will hear that and run out and buy the driver. What they don't tell you is that you are just going to hit it that much farther into the woods.

My G10 is probably 20 yards longer than my old driver - it was over 10 years old though. I was sort of forced to get new driver after buying a new 3-wood - it's longer than my old BB Warbird. I hit way more fairways with the 3-wood though, hit it way more often. On some courses I only use the driver a couple times. Money well spent right there!

Try cutting it to 45" or less. Might give you more consistency off the tee and might be longer too. That is what happened for me since I can now hit the center of the club face more consistently.

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
