Im still kinda lost on this ball fitting craze. Does it really matter and how can I find out what is best aside from trying them all out.

Honestly if people can just post their experiences with Callaway, Pro V's, the new Taylor Made TF Black balls and the new Bridgestones...

I want to start playing the same ball because I will be playing One Ball tourneys and want to practice with what I will play ?

hmm...does it matter that much? not as much as some people make it seem to be but it certainly does help. the right ball wont make your balls go any straigher but its a matter of finding the most optimal ball thats best fitted for your swing and style.

for example, if you're the kind of guy who needs a little bit more distance but you have a slower swing speed, or if you're the kind of guy that wants a ball that'll have a little more spin, etc, the ball fitting can help figure that out. by measuring your swing speed, how much backspin, trajectory, etc, you can find the ball that can aid in doing what you want the ball to do. but with that said, its not magically going to make your ball dead stop on the green and it wont add a new level of distance to your driver. that all depends on your swing and a ball isn't going to change that. But since you're spending 12-50$ a dozen of balls anyway, why not find one that is better fitted for your game and swing?

I think you just need to hit as many different balls as possible and see for yourself. Whats good off the driver face might feel like crap off of the putter. For instance...... I love Pro V's from tee to green, but they seem to feel dead off the putter face. I like the sound of a nice pop (feedback?) when putting. This might sound crazy to some, but I like putting with the ole Top Flite XL. A mishit changes the sound completely off the putter face. I dont get that with a Pro V.

I mostly play with the Pro V or a Top Flite XL. The Titleist HP3 isnt a bad ball either. I never cared much for any of the Nike's Callaways, or TaylorMades. Balls are just as personal as a putter........ so everthing I just typed is my opinion only.

The only true way is to try them out. I am not too picky when it comes to golf balls. Right now I am playing TP Reds. When those are gone, I will use the One Tour D's I have, then the One Tours I have. They are all pretty similar for me anyway. I can adapt to any ball.

We all get way too caught-up in this Ball Spin stuff. In todays world of Golf, things have leveled / evened-out to where there is really not that big of a difference in Ball A vs Ball B. Sure in the olden days of the wound Titleist vs say standard Top-Flights their were huge differences. Today thru technology manufactures have created non-urethane covered balls that act almost like urethane. Upgrades in core materials and layers have also closed the old gap to where most balls have practically the same characteristics.
The specifications for Legal Golf Balls are narrowly defined, therefore all the various manufacturers produce products that act all but the same. Ball Weight, size, ball speed, design, performance, ect... must fall within these very narrowly defined specifications.
It's the Marketing and Advertising schemes / angles that make us think there are major differences. There are not.
Give Mickelson, Couples or Mahan, a TF Gamer, Maxfli VT4, a Wilson Staff Zip, or any decent ball and they will learn its slight nuances and eventually shoot the same scores they do with their current Highly Marketed Balls. Just like the groove change which affected spin, a Ball change will not increase Tour average scores, at least not enought to be noticable.

To tell you the truth, just find one you like and then stick with it. Decide what you want to pay for balls, then pick one in that price range and play it. If you like the way it works for you, then stick with it. What specific ball you choose isn't as important as consistency in performance. Once you decide, stick with it, don't do llike so many casual golfers and play with a general mix of balls from your shag bag.

I happen to like the TaylorMade Penta TP. It's longer off the driver and irons with my very average swing speed (about 90-95 mph) than most premium balls, but still gives good performance for approaches and greenside chips and pitches. Whatever you choose, take the time learn its characteristics and how it performs for your game.

Find a brand or type of ball you like and try others that claim the same properties. It's nice to try other balls out for a couple reasons.

1.) you'll have options in case your favourite ball is discontinued, out of stock, or gets bumped up in price 2.) after you realize you can shoot essentially the same score with various balls, you'll focus on the real reasons you're not scoring better in general
