SO I just ordered some standard size grips to replace the oversize ones on my 52s, the undersized stock nikes on my pro combos, and the 15 year old grips on my father's clubs (don't know how he doesn't send one flying). Anyway, my question is this....

How much of a difference should I expect going to standard (what I am suppose to have) on my 2 sets? Or possibly, more simply, how would a grip that is too small, and too large affect your iron shots?

Let's say you hit the ball straight before you switch the thickness of your grips.

* Thinner grips would let you hold the club more in your fingers, increasing chances you would draw the ball.
* Thicker grips would let you hold the club more in your hands, increasing chances you would fade the ball.

If you fade the ball, thinner grips might help you straighten your shots.
If you hook the ball, thicker grips might help you straighten your drives.

In the 1990s, you would buy either men's or women's grips, and build them up with layers of tape to desired thickness. Today, equipment manufacturers make several thicknesses of grips for different hand sizes. If you're going to regrip clubs yourself, check an online how-to site - you have options other than using tape. I haven't regripped a club in more than 10 years - I let others do it.

Thanks a lot, that was extremely helpful. I do fade my irons with the thicker grips (and they are just uncomfortable) so it would be nice if it killed two birds with one stone. For $1.50 a club I feel much better having the shop re-grip them for me.
