So I'm looking to pick up some non CC spin milled wedges via eBay. I've been researching and notice that some of the wedges have loft numbers on the sole of the club and some have them more towards the toe. Other than that the clubs look identical. Anyone know the difference between the two styles?

Here's what I'm talkin' 'bout:

Numbers on the sole

Numbers toward the toe

Thanks

well i cant say i KNOW for sure.. But i do have an educated guess.. and that is that the difference is year. i think the number toward the toe is older. i could be wrong tho.

the one with the number on the toe has more heel/toe relief. Is so you can lay the club open a little easier and prevents digging. I use a 58 degree like that. Its supposed to benefit steeper swingers.

I see what you're talkin' 'bout. The way the lower bounce clubs are ground, 60.04 for example, have the loft number towards the toe and the ones with more bounce, 60.07 and 60.10 have the loft number on the sole. Case solved. Thanks.

The wedges with different sole designs are the ones that have them on the toe, and the normal soles have the number on the sole.

Different sole designs. My 54 has a traditional sole while the 58 has heel and toe relief. That's really the only difference between the soles.

    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
