A little bored this afternoon, so I thought I would post some random thoughts........

1. Despite the loss, I was very impressed at how R. Fowler handled himself....this kid may dress like a teenager, but he carries himself as a veteran.

2. For every guy out there who didn't grow up in a country club with private lessons, the win by Tommy "two gloves" Gainey holds a specail place....nothing better than seeing a guy who has traveled a very rocky road with a homemade swing gain such success....I am buying a glove for my right hand tonight.

3. Remember the name Kyle Stanley (if you don't already know it) -- he will win multiple times on the PGA Tour and will be a part of the heralded 20-somethings in the next two years......another Nationwide player who I really like to watch is Jhnonattan Vegas (I still don't know how that gets pronounced the way it does, but the guy can hit the ball a mile and a half)..

4. Jack Nicklaus is a treat to listen to in the booth -- he is smart, funny and doesn't overanalyze things -- I love the fact that he openly disagreed with Kostis' swing analysis of Fowler on Saturday, and laughed out loud when he told the story of the day he visited the zoo across the street and a gorilla pasted him squarely with her "stuff" (as he put it).

5. Kudos to Ty Tryon for qualifying for the US Open from a very deep Sectional field.....this guy has seen some serious ups and downs in the game and keeps plugging along....I, for one, will be rooting from him to catch a bigtime heater and contend at Pebble.

6. If you watched this weeked, you saw a striaght on view of Tiger hitting the ball off the tee with a 3-iron....the ball was no further forward than the middle of his stance, and may have even been a fraction back of center....I believe a lot of amatuers could benefit from a bit of experimentation....IMO, there is no standard ideal ball position.....dig it out of the dirt.

7. Gotta give some love for Tom Kite and Corey Pavin for trying to play their way into the US Open....Kite especially....I agree with whoever it was that says its a travestry that he didn't get a special invite after winning at Pebble in the early 90s

8. I personally think every golf course in America should narrow the fairways and let the rough grow for US Open week........man up and play the game under tough conditions....if nothing else, you will have some great fodder for your post-round bitch session over beer/cocktails.

9. I would love to see Phil Mickelson win the US Open at Pebble......

If you have something to add, please do so.......

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
