I just setup a hitting net in my backyard, and hit about 100 balls into it. It felt good to get to hit at home finally, but it got pretty mundane around 50th ball or so.

What are some drills that I should try out? Or should I just grit my teeth and hit 100 balls into it each day like I planned on?

Obviously I will be paying attention to each shot and everything, it just gets kind of boring, wondering if there is anything to spice it up.

Also, one more question I have been meaning to ask. When I am a single, I will set my iPod to shuffle, and music seems to calm me out and make me more relaxed, any of you guys do this?.

Thanks,

Colin

Make sure you don't ingrain bad habits hitting into a net.
I'd advise you to use the net while getting lessons, you'll have something to focus on.

I was afraid that I could develop some bad habits, but usually I can tell when a swing has gone off for me. I plan to golf about 4-5 times a week, the net is just for the days I cant get out there. I can go walk 18 holes for free at Quail, so there shouldn't be a shortage of me golfing.

That's ok then, as long as you play too.

I remember last winter I only practised and didn't play, I managed to ingrain a reverse pivot, took a looooooong time to get rid of it.

I will do this from time to time. Only when I golf alone. It does seem to keep me more relaxed. It keeps me from thinking about too many swing thoughts.

I only mine loud enough to hear when I am in the cart, and a short distance away. If its any louder I think it will distract other people..

Been thinking about putting up a clothesline in the backyard where I can hit balls into a blanket/net. Not as safe for the neighbors as a scoop-shaped net.

I do regularly pitch balls off the carpet onto a sofa with a 7-9 or wedge; very easy to engrain all kinds of bad habits this way, including a reverse pivot, but I think it has vastly helped my eye-hand coordination and general golf skills. Wish I had done this drill years ago, when I was plagued with hitting thin or fat and missing the sweet spot.

I actually did this drill two days ago into my son's lacrosse goal by hanging a drop cloth so the balls don't fly through the net...

I was working on my release because I haven't played in about 6 months and I felt that little flippy flippy creep back slightly through impact the last time I played...I started by exaggerating the impact position of the hands (left supine - right cupped) with chips, pitches, half-shots, knock-downs and then full shots. I did enough that I felt the proper release with no break down or flip of the left wrist. The next day I went to the range and started the same way and was really hitting it solid.

I don't like hitting into a net for the sake of hitting into a net as there is little feedback through ball flight, however I find it useful to work out a specific point as in the above example.

The LAX goal is perfect for an outdoor net...I just hang a canvass drop cloth on it and presto...golf station!

Were did you get one? This upcoming season we are getting new nets, so my coach said I could buy one of the older ones.

Most sports outlets carry them. I think we paid $99 and it is 6x6x7. Like I said it is a LAX goal first and foremost. I just hang a drop cloth on it because the golf balls shoot right through the net.

If they hit me, I would run them down and tear their heads off!!

No, just kidding! I guess that would be on me now wouldn't it. I wouldn't hold any hard feelings. Well maybe my wife would if I were to die. Then again, maybe she wouldn't. Ha!
