So my girlfriend is ready to step it up with her interest in golf. Took her to the range last night and she had a blast. I was very patient with her and taught her the basics and she's already hitting the ball well!

Anyway, this excites me quite a bit. She is my best friend so being able to enjoy a hobby with her is amazing :)

So I was looking around at clubs and while I don't want to spend a ton of money in getting her top of the line stuff... I also want to avoid getting her a crappy complete set that she's going to grow out of.
I'd rather buy her a proper quality set at a reasonable price that she can use and hold onto for awhile.

Anyway, I saw that on Costco.com, they have ladies Nike Slingshot's on sale 5-SW for $200! Anyone have any gf/wives who have had experience using the Nike Slingshots?

Likewise, anyone know of any great deals on a set of irons right now?

Gracias in advance folks.

My wife started playing around three years ago and she has committed since then (lucky me!). At that time, she tried slingshot and hate it because of its look and weird sound at impact. It's like ringing a thick, muted bell. So, she went with callaway x20. She also hit the new model of slingshot a month ago and said the sound is much better than its previous version but she doesn't like it anyway because the clubhead is heavy. I guess she gets used to her set.

Are you also considering buying the new model but fewer clubs? like 6-pw?

yeah I was thinking we'll hold off on the driver or fairway woods until she gets used to the basic mechanics of things. I'm looking to get her not necessarily a complete set...but a variety for her to really practice.

She tried out a couple low end iron sets like Ram from Sports Authority but I'm not sure I would spend $200 for a complete set of crap...they feel cheap and the shaft feels extremely plasticky and cheap. I'll have her try out the Slingshots and see what she thinks and go from there. I'm hoping she'll really get to enjoy it since my entire family golfs and so does her family.

I would consider going to a golf shop that can fit her with clubs. Not a computerized fitting that costs $200, just a static fitting to make sure the shafts aren't too long or short, or too flat or upright. If she's 5-2 to 5-6 tall, chances are average women's clubs would fit her.

Also, good shops will let her hit a couple of sets so she gets one she likes.

Here's a site which focuses on Women's Golf Clubs.

Also, consider a boxed set. Lots of the better club companies like Callaway and Adams make them now, and would last her for the early years of golf.

If you're a golfer, and Miss Wonderful also acts golfish, this could be the beginning of a long-term relation - maybe more than golf! Uncle WU says, don't mess it up with crappy clubs.

Focus, connect and follow through!

thanks WUTiger. I think shaft length will defintely be something she'll need to look into but with options being so limiited, not sure how much fitting we can get.
