So got a question about hybrids and distances
I was considering buying like a 17 degree hybrid for longer shots off the fairway/rough when needed
Is this a good idea or would a 3 wood be better or something?

My Clubs:
Ping I3 + blade 3-pw
9.5 09 Burner with prolaunch red
Nickent 4dx driver
Taylormade Z tp 52, 56, 60
YES Carolyne putter

I rarely carry a 3 wood anymore-either a 16* hybrid or a 19.5* hybrid, distance with the 16* is within 5 yards of a 15* 3 wood, and the 19.5* is within 10-15, but both are more accurate and easier to hit out of less than perfect lies.

So i should get an adams a4os tomorrow for 75 bucks brand new?
should i get a 2 or 3 hybrid?
trying to decide right now, i'm decent with my 3 iron from all lies but sometimes i thin it and lose that 10-15 yards of distance

I carry a 19 degree - a bit shorter than a 5 wood but longer than my 3 iron (a bit more reliable out of all lies for me, too). It was a free club so I can't really say if I'd buy one for myself. It has proved rather useful since I put it in my bag, though.

I rather like it. Those things just hit themselves - they seem to be better than a 3 iron out of heavy rough and more reliable than a FW when the ball is sitting up on a fluffy lie.

I love the hybrid, carry from 3-5 in bag depending on where or when, also only carry a 16 degree 4 F-wood, no 3, Sometimes carry a 2 to 6 hybrid sometimes only a couple or three. Just depends on the course and how I am hitting. I have no problems hitting a hybrid and about 99.9% of the time would rather hit them vs. a iron but this is just me--others will feel another way. You have to be comfortable with what you are going to hit, if you have doubts in your mind before you hit the club you should not pull it from your bag--you are dead in the water before you take that swing in almost all cases. I would make sure I gave myself a good amount of time to get used to the hybrid before I made the choice, if you can hit a number of them, get your avg distance with each down to a very close number and make the choice based on this and fit it in to your mix of clubs based on distance and not a number on the head.

You can see from my sig that I carry 2 hybrids PLUS a 15° 3W. The hybrids replace my long irons, not my FW woods.

You do anything differently to hit the 16 hybrid vs the 19.5? I hit my 19 just fine (TM Rescue) but can't hit a 15 (Ping G10 hybrid) to save my life. I've given up on the 3 wood and rarely even put it in the bag.

Not too much, the 16* is a little bit further forward in my stance, and I try to swing it like a long iron (reminding myself the ball needs absolutely no help getting up in the air). Process for hitting both hybrids is 1) look at target down the line 2) set up stance properly 3) head locked into position 4) shoulder turn (left shoulder should point at the ball) 5) keep head in position as i come through the swing

Hitting some 1/2 and 2/3 shot with your 15* hybrid might help you get a feel for how you want the club to contact the ball.

    • Day 85 - 2026-03-17 30 minutes of putting work, 15 chipping. Getting reacquainted with the Scottsdale green and greenside terrain. Really freaking hot here.
    • Day 9 (17 Mar 26) - Worked with alignment today to work on getting properly lined up with target point using alignment rods.  Worked on getting takeaway parallel to alignment line.  Solid session.
    • Day 212 3-17 Flow work and arching. Hit some foam balls. Recorded
    • Im struggling to hit a 3 wood any distance. Im 67 now and used to use a 3 wood all the time. My swing speed with the 3 woods is between 80-84. I am only 5'5" tall. I currently have 4- 3 woods in my used club selection. I have an old Titliest 910FD, a Taylormade Sim2, a PXG gen 4 and a Ping G430. None of these can i hit more than 180 yards and often much shorter. My driver which is a Ping G430 I hit about 210-225. Heres the crazy thing, I carry a Taylormade Sim2- 7 wood that I hit 175-185. I carry an older titliest H1 Hybrid 23* that i hit 165-175. All yardages are with carry. When i hit both the Hybrid and the 7 wood they feel like very solid strikes yet I never feel like i hit any of these 3 woods solid. All of these clubs have regular shafts of different manufacturers. I would like to be able to hit a 3 wood 200 yards. Im thinking I need to start playing with shafts, Maybe even shorten them some. I have equipment to pull shafts and set swingweights and reglue. I have a bunch of reg flex old driver shafts that i could shorten. My driver, 7 wood and Hybrid are all D3 Swingweight. The 3 woods are D3 as well.  Where would you start? Thanks Rod
    • This was a great read from start to finish. Ive been watching the LAB putters for 3 or 4 years now. Ive never been a good putter and Ive worked at putting but i just dont seem to get better at it. I play at least 3 times a week with a 11.6 Hdcp and i have owned probably 20+ putters over my last 10 years. Ive even tried the broomstick putters which at first I thought helped but as time went on i missed just as many putts. For me it comes down to nerves which i struggle to control when putting. I always feel like i have someone leaning over me watching my every move when i putt. I had a friend I play with this fall go get fitted for a LAB and he came back all excited, he bought one and he was already a player that probably averages 32 putts a round. So i think I would say hes a good putter. I used his putter a few times and the feeling i get compared to my putter which right now is a Ping Vault 2.0 Piper and just before that an Evnroll ER5v and before that Spyder Ghost........anyway the feeling I notice was that i can take the putter back without it twisting some. At least thats the feeling i get. I dont know if i would be a better putter with a LAB putter but after this year i will know as I went and was fitted and have one on the way. I can only hope it makes a differnce. If not ive got plenty of putters to fall back on!  Rod
