I am thinking of putting a Dynamic Gold shaft in my Titleist 909 H 17. I demoed it with the Diamana stock shaft in Regular, ordered it with the stock Voodoo in Stiff.

I feel the Dynamic Gold, might add more control and a lower trajectory ..... any thoughts ?

i actually feel the opposite. with the advanced graphite technology these days, i find newer graphite shafts to add much more consistency and control and not at the cost of my swing either.

I played my Callaway x-tour 3 wood with steel shaft for several months before I tried out the TItleist 909F3 with voodoo and I went with it right away. Trajectory is just perfect for what i'm looking for and definitely no loss of control.

I don't think you would like it. The weighting will be all over the place. That shaft is almost 130g, and any hybrid graphite will be in the 80-100 range. The head is much lighter than a regular iron so it won't play nearly as the same as an iron. It sounds good in theory, but there is a reason they put graphite in all of the hybrids.

If that is a club that you hit 215 yards, with a steel shaft I would guess you would be lucky to hit it 200 consistently. There are plenty of graphite shafts that will do what you want without sacrificing the distance and control.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I agree - at least that's how it works for me. I've always played steel shafts in all of my woods and hybrids. I probably give up something in distance, but can hit the steel clubs where I am aiming (which I have always found is very helpful when playing golf).

    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
