Handicap, is there a difference between GHIN & the British Handicap System?

I am currently a 14.1, although I am playing a little better than usual, I post ALL my scores and I am still 14.
I have many friends that come over from the UK to play and many of those are a 10 or below, almost every time we go out I beat them gross, net and even in the stableford points system, they call me a bandit amongst other things and say that I should be at least a 10, if not lower.

So it got me wondering, is there a comparison table or something to compare the two systems?

Any thoughts?

Does CONGU really not use the slope rating system?

i think they're pretty different (but wish the English readers will chime in here...unless they're still in mourning from their goaltender's blunder...although in his defense and to talk equipment, any golfer knows that dimples are needed for stable ball flight; so making a "smoother" soccer ball will make it spin less and be more fickle in the air, sort of like a Tim Wakefield knuckleball...but i digress).

From what i've read and can peruse, CONGU (the governing body administering handicaps in England/Ireland) only accepts Tournament scores, not casual scores. One can postulate that player's tend to practice before a club tournament and their games might be in better shape.

Also, i've read that when submitting those scores, the max recorded hole score (for handicap purposes) is a double bogey; this is similar in concept to GHIN's equitable stroke control, although for mid-handicappers (with a Course Handicap of 10-19), the max recorded score is a 7 (regardless of the par of any indivdual hole). Assuming this is true, then "blow-up" holes are much more likely to affect a U.S. golfer's handicap trying to get to single digits....

Again, can someone actually playing under CONGU's system please verify? (you can't trust what you read on the web you know, except for this forum of course...)

Thanks guys for your respnses, and thanks for the interesting link.

So after reading the info on that site, there is a difference in the two systems, but it seems that there are so many variable factors that there cannot be a set table for comparison IMHO

Nope, As I understand it your start handicap is based on your gross score less the SSS of a course. So you play a Par 70 (with a SSS of 72) you shoot 16 over = Handicap 14

Then everytime you shoot a gross score over you handicap it goes up by 0.1 and goes down by 0.3 for every shot under you shoot in an under handicap gross score round. Stableford wise handicaps go up 0.1 everytime you score less than 34 points (playing to handicap) and go down 0.3 when you shoot over 34 points. Think that is right?
