heard during the US Open that they spent $1million on R&D; with Ishikawa's driver... I guess they're just trying to get their money back.

I used to game a yonex adx titanium back in the day when mickelson was hitting it. I think I got it for 200 and it was maybe 2 months after it came out plus yonex in my opinion was in bigger in the US back then.

phil mickelson use to be sponsored by yonex, he use to play their irons etc.

Back in the late 90s, I bought the exact driver that Phil used to use, the Super ADX Biam Titanium 9.5*. I remember going to the Buick Open and getting really close to Phil and Bones and I told Bones, "I've got the same driver and I love it." Bones told Phil, "You hear that Phil, another guy bought your driver." I paid $300 for it used and I swapped out the stock shaft for a Graffaloy Pro Lite X. My new driver, I paid $130 for brand new, 13 years later. So yeah, Yonex has never been cheap. I can still hit that ADX driver damn well, longer than my 07 Burner. Club head is just so small that I'm not as consistent.

In the same line, i.e. Nanov SD, an iron set (#5~#9 + PW) seems to start at 52,000 yen with a NS Pro 950 GH shaft.

These figures like 30,000 yen, 50,000 yen, 82,000 yen mean nothing to me...what does that translate to in US dollars? I have a friend over in Japan right now for a few weeks...maybe I'll have her pick something up for me if she can find it for cheap!

If your friend is Japanese, she can use rakuten.co.jp

But keep in mind that standard measurements in Japan are not the same as standard measurements in the US. A standard #6 iron shaft here is 37 inches long, i.e. half an inch shorter than a standard #6 iron in the US, and has a lie angle of 61º, i.e. 1 to 2 degrees flatter than the US counterpart.

yeah I was more thinking along the lines of a driver. Thanks for the heads up though.

    • I am considering replacing my 2013 9.5 degree stiff shaft Cobra Ampcell S driver. I think my swing speed of mid 90's might benefit from a softer shaft and more loft. I do not want to spend a lot on a new club or even a top end used club like Ping G430. I know the right answer is get on a launch monitor and see what works for me. But, being in South Africa, there is a miniscule used club market and all I can find will have to be mailed from another town. I would be grateful for views on the following options that are cheap and I like the look of: Ping Rapture V2 10.5 degrees regular TFC 939 shaft, Ping Anser 9.5 degrees regular and Ping G20 10.5 degrees Alta 55g regular.

    • I am marshalling at the Truist this week. Philadelphia Cricket is a great old Tillinghast track. It only tops out at around 7,100 yards so these guys might tear it up but it shouldn't take away from how good it is. Unfortunately, because of spectator restrictions around the 18th green, they aren't playing the traditional routing. The 18th hole will play as the 11th hole.
    • I am marshaling at the Truist this week at Philly Cricket. During the practice round yesterday, I was at the 5th tee when Justin Rose came by and I asked, are you going to keep your Philly streak going? He looked at me and paused for a second and then laughed and said, that would be nice. He's won at Aronimink and Merion. It would be a nice trifecta.
