Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice with my spin.

I'm able to put backspin on the ball on command, but I'd like to know the specifics of causing less and more spin, check ups, and spinning it in certain directions.

Any direct advice or links would be very helpful.

Are you most interested in controlling spin around the greens, or on approach shots from the fairway?

for more spin, take less club and hit it hard and high. for less spin, take more club and hit it soft and low. now, go out there and be somebody!

Approach shots, I can check up chip shots well enough where I know what to work on, but I really want to learn how to hone backspin from the fairway.

Short and to the point. I like your style.

guy goes up to Ben Hogan, asks him "Mr. Hogan how can I put backspin on my 7 iron?"....Hogan says, "how far you hit your 7?" Guy answers, "bout 125." Hogan answers, "why the f@$K you want to learn how to stop it?"

Don't know if its a true story but it's kinda funny.

Seniorchipotle had some good advice there. Your impact position is important in controlling spin. In addition to clubhead speed, the more you can pinch/trap and compress the ball, the more spin (on a full swing fairway shot).

    • Maybe not different but more concise and with data to better explain the issue. I think it aids both the instructor and student as it can be interpreted as technical as each person wants.
    • Day 320: worked on putting with the yardstick drill for a while. Checked set up in the mirror as well, and it was pretty solid.
    • Truer words have never been spoken, as I am seeing tonight 😅. I hope my ignorance did not come across as arrogant… Definitely true, however there was also a pro present, albeit not trained in GEARS specifically as would be necessary. I am certainly learning a lot (as I hoped I would). I am not here to challenge the accuracy or significance of any data, as I did find it interesting how it objectively showed my swing. What I am wondering is if an expert teacher trained in GEARS was shown a swing with and without GEARS, would the pro come to a different conclusion using GEARS versus "traditional methods," genuinely curious.
