Well after registering, completing my three posts, and taking a spin on the Conan the Barbarion Wheel of pain I can final introduce myself!

I have been playing golf for about 17 years. Long ago in my middle 20's I used to play 2-3 times a week (I am 40 now). For the last 10 years it has become 2-3 times a year. My wife recently took up the game about 2 years ago and I am looking to get back in it. I recently bought some new clubs (Adams A3 irons) and have taken a lessons which corrected my really bad hook. I have been going to the range twice a week and am looking forward to playing a round (as soon as it stops raining here in Iowa).

My golf goals are fairly simple. Hit the ball consitantly (sp?), learn how to use a driver again (haven't used one in 5 years), and to play fairly solid round of golf. I am glad I found this forum and hope you all can help me on my new golf journey.

I see you are in Williamsburg. That is not too far from me (I am in Muscatine). I grew up in Iowa City and still have good friends I visit all the time.

My wife and I were thinking about taking a day off and playing in the Amanas sometime. Is the course there good?

Great to see the Iowans out in force! To echo the sentiments the Amana Colonies GC is a wonderful place to play, nice greens and scenery. They were dangerously close to the flooding a few years back but I believe they made it through in great shape. Riverside Casino outside of IC built Blue Top Ridge a few years back and it is receiving decent reviews. Anyone ever played it? Is it worth the $?

We should have the Eastern Iowa Sand Trap Open :)

Just signed up for the site & I am in Des Moines. Glad to see other Iowa golfers speaking up.
My brother-in-law just played Blue Top Ridge and it is pretty wet with all the rain. I played it last year and loved to river holes on the front 9. I suggest doing a play & stay package. The hotel is very nice as well.

Awesome to see some SE Iowan's!!! I regularly play @ Spirit Hollow GC in Burlington and have lived in Cedar Falls, and also Des Moines... It's always nice to know courses you fellas have talked about!

I know people who have played Spirit Hollow and said good things about it. Hopefully I can improve my game enough this year where I can go to other courses and not look like a fool. I put down a "20" for handicap because the registration system made me but I really don't have a handicap (or play enough right now to figure one out). Would this make me "scratch" golfer? (honest question).

How about one more newbie Iowan? I live in Waukee, work in Des Moines, but when I was in college, I went to University of Iowa and played alot of the courses in the area, then lived in Dubuque for 5 years before moving home to the Des Moines area. I am just getting serious about golf again. I used to be in a sales job where I was able to golf alot when I was traveling, but the last 7-8 years it has been very infrequent. I play at several of the local public courses from time to time, and I am finally getting my game back in shape through alot of practice. Good to see so many Iowans on here.

Welcome HawkFan! Glad to see a fellow Hawk!

    • Day 13: 12/23/2024 A lot more mirror work today. Using my same swing thought. Some slow motion, some full motion, some in between. Today I made sure I took every swing all the way to the finish.
    • Day 234 (23 Dec 24) - Mystery Monday - what to do today….pretty straight up as I spent time with the 58 and a series of pitches (lower flighted all the way up to high fliers over the tulip tree).  Wrapped up the day going lower ball with the 9i and easy bump and runs.  Again as always the setup was key - case in point, got lazy and casually set up, feet straight and promptly hit a couple of nice heely shots hard right.  Knew it immediately, as next couple I went through the routine and flew the balls promptly too the target point.  Setup - setup - setup…
