Is it really a course record?

I was reading in Golfweek magazine about Cristie Kerr's 61 at the John Q. Hammons Hotel Classic. Is it really the course record when you shoot 61 from 6,571 yards?? What If someone else shot 62 from the tips.

I'm not trying to downplay her accomplishment. I like her and think she is a very good player.

You know that in PGA events they occasionally play from different tees on different days. How come you never called their course records into question?

I think that's a little overly sensitive of ez's question. I didn't take it as downplaying her accomplishments at all, I think its a legit question. The answer, rather than being so touchy with his question, is that I think they would definitely consider it a course record because it occurred during a tournament... they might consider it the LPGA Course Record and not the Official Course Record, but nevertheless, when you see that course's record talked about, I'm sure you'll see "Cristie Kerr - 61" right up there.

IMHO...yes...the different tees and length are the "handicap" given to women. So ineffect they are playing the same course as the men.

The 'black' course is not the same as the 'blue'. it seems that having just a course record would be incomplete - sort of like having a track record and not specifying if it was the mile or the 1,500 meters.

Take a prozac and listen up. Like I said, I'm not trying to downplay her accomplishment, and maybe I didn't express the post as well as I should have. I was wondering if there would be a different course record from the tips. Like if Ernie Els came out and shot a 62 would that be the record from the tips and 61 from the Blue's?

I'll work on typing my thoughts out a little better and sorry for offending your daughter Mr. Kerr. I really do like her golf game. Especially after she lost all that weight.

That is my question, too. I checked with our course yesterday we have a record from the tips or tournament tees (Black-62) and a record from the member tees (blue- also 62), as well as women's record (67). Some of our tee boxes are located in different locations which not only change the distance but the look and shape of the course. When we move from member tees to the tournament boxes it is definately a different course. ( much more than 40 yards)

i guess it all matters how that specific course keeps their records in the end.

If they feel its the record, and nobody has gotten to a 61 from any tee, then hell its the standing record.
