Just wondering why the greens were so discoloured last week. It is similar to my home course in Australia. I thought they would be pristine being the US Open and all...

I had this conversation last night with a friend of mine, he said that the greens are made up of two different types of grass hence the two shades of green.
He also said that he grew up in CA and the type of grass there is not that great at this time of year.

I think it was Ian Poulter that said last week it was like putting on Brocoli !!

It would be interesting to see what the guys on here from that area say about it.

I certainly wouldn't pay $500 for a round there with greens like that.

A buddy and I had been planning a trip to play at pebble a few years from now. After watching the US Open, I think I will just settle for watching a Tournament there.

Keep in mind that 'bad' greens for the tour are probably 20 times better than what I play on my muni! If Pebble's greens are broccoli, then ours are mac 'n cheese!

I'm kind of opposed to paying $500 for any round but if I were to do it, Pebble Beach would be the one. Bad greens and all.

It might be because its cut a lot shorter to make it faster so it might be the dirts color showing through.

The greens at pebble (and yes, I was there for the Open, shameless brag!) are poa annua, due to the cool, no, cold temps there all year.
Mottled colors are the norm, but the greens were rolling fast and true. My sunday pairing sheet has 5 guys at 27.3 putts per round or less, lead by Graham McDowell.
On the days the sun didn't get through, temps were in the 50's, and breezy. When the sun did get through it was in the 60's, and breezy.

I've gotta say that after seeing PB, I'd love to play there, but no freakin' way at $450 or $500 per round. It's a great course, but that's absurd. Until money no longer means anything of value to me, I'll be happy to play 5-10 rounds at other courses rather than blow it there.

I was there on Sat and Sun also, and the greens I saw seemed fine. I saw a lot of missed birdie putts on 15 on Sunday, but they all just looked misjudged to me.

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"
