I have the Titleist 695cbs and absolutely love them. They have the right amount of forgiveness for being a players club and they don't have the fat top line of some other cavity backs (such as pings). I tried out the Mizuno mp-60's also and they are killer as well. You cant go wrong with either of them. Haven't hit the pings, nikes, or hogans though.

It just so happens I have an extra set of FTX irons I'm looking to get rid of.

And they are indeed sweet clubs!

I'm thinking about getting a set of RAC TP's. Have you tried those at all?

I currently play the Nike Pro Combos and I like them. They are a great combination between playability and long iron forgiviness. I would give them a thumbs up. In addition, I have hit the new Ping S58's and if there is one set of clubs that might make the starting lineup ahead of the Nikes its the Pings. Mizuno always makes a good set of irons, athough I haven't hit the mp 60's. I've never liked Hogan or callaway I have hit both and didn't like either. Try the Titleist 735 CM they are a better "players" club in my opinion than the 698 CB. Out of the players sets you describe I don't think you can go wrong with any of the sets from Ping, Titleist, or Nike.

One small note:
they don't have the fat top line of some other cavity backs (such as pings)

The Ping S58 irons have a topline like a blade.

Drizz!

You want to get to +3??!!!

Be careful! There are always two ways to go!

Check out the new Mizuno MP67! Awesome looking! I know you can handle them - perhaps a next generation MP60 is close behind!

I have heard MP60 promotes a bit higher ball flight. . .

im 16 years old and am a national level player so i think little more forgivness would be key for the deadly long courses and under pressure. anything to get me to +3

Why don't you try the 695cb's for that little bit extra forgiveness. The thing with the cb's is that they are going to give you a very similar launch to the mb's but a bit more forgiveness. Anyways I'm pretty sure you know better than most of us what's going to suit you and I can't imagine that a player of your caliber would buy any clubs without testing them out.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
