I'm looking for some ideas to help me hit more GIRs. My natural shot is a slight draw, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to align for it. At the range, I find myself just adjusting my aim subconciously, so I hit where I'm aiming after the first few shots on the range, however, I'm having trouble bringing that over to the course. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to figuring out my alignment on the course, I know I can use alignment sticks, and I have on the range, but out of the course, I typically can't judge how far I'm going to be to the left. My draw is fairly consistant, so I know if I can get my alignment worked out, I'll be good to go, I'm just really having trouble bringing my alignment to the course.

Any drills I can work on, or am I just going to have to get the "feel" for it on the course through more practice. I really don't want to lose my natural draw, but I can hit it straight it I want to usually. I just find it much more useful on the course to have the draw, if I could just judge how far out to play it on the course.

When ever I want to improve my ball striking, I focus on the following:

1) Making solid contact
2) distance control
3) direction

I also practice my backswing by starting with partial wedge shots. If I can hit a pure short wedge shot with the above 1-3 points I move to 3/4 wedge shots and I practice until I can hit my shots with the above 1-3. Then I will hit full wedge shots and make sure that I hit my shot with the above 1-3.

After hitting pure wedge shots full swing, I will move on to a 9 or 8 iron and do the same this all over again. this drill has help my become a better ball striker.

What I focus on my backswing is the take away height and direction and the acid test is the feel of the club and ball contact on pure solid contacts. The mp33 blades give me great feedback on off center shots.

It works for me just before I play a round of golf. If you are a 22 handicap golfer the focus should be on getting up and down from within 30 yards and later within 100 yards before you should be concern with hitting GIR.

If your goal like most of us is to lower your handicap. 90 - 100 of your practice should be focus on the short game and the rest of the game will following.

Some may say its getting off the tee box, but if you can not hit your driver move down to a 3 wood or even a 5 wood to get your ball in play or choke up on the shaft and swing slower with your driver.
