My biggest issue right now is maintaining the wedge. With shorter irons I can maintain it to contact 90% of the time and have what is "pure" contact, TO ME. However, I can still feel my front arm flex after contact and a little bit of the flips. This is after the down ward contact, though.

The longer the irons get, the more difficult it gets to maintain the wedge through contact, and even maintain it at all.

What are some things I can do to help keep the wedge with longer irons, but also to maintain the wedge beyond contact? I can get the buttery click but can still feel myself pulling up with the front arm afterwards. I am working on making an impact bag and might spring for one of those plexyglass deals you lay on the turf behind the ball.

The wedge is the first in a sequence of two hurdles for me..the second is controlling my sometimes wild draw.

Your advice is appreciated as always.

You gotta turn! You are lettin your arms outrace your body. Feel kinda like your draggin the handle in front of the head all the way through the swing. You won't be able to do it but that is the feel you need and you will develop a consistent release that way. Works with all clubs and most shots aside from splash unker or fairway bunker shots.

I was working on a similar drill today on the range. I believe I was using a 9i with a 1/2 backswing. All I was trying to do was to maintain the wedge after impact and I felt like I was doing so, but just about everyone of my shots were being blocked off to the right. I don't understand how you can maintain the flying wedge and achieve anything differently. It seems the only way I could get a ball to draw back or go semi straight was to roll my wrist which I know is ultimately the opposite of what I was trying to accomplish in the drill. Maybe I wasn't lifting my legs, tucking my butt, and rotating enough like the previous poster suggested on your problem with longer irons...hmmm

delofting the club opens it up so you either have to turn more to square it up or take it back a little shut, remember if it goes dead right its because the face was wide open and you have to counter that.
