I googled a lot on this, and the only comment I could find on this is "a deer is larger than a flag"

But I would say a green is larger than a deer ........

Basicly these are identical rangefinders, and I personally feel that if is says "Golf", it costs $100 extra.

Anyone using a RX-I instead of a GX-I ?

Sorry for the short response. In a hurry to get to Oakmont.

Same platform, but different optics. GX-I has more precision.

You aren't shooting the whole green with a laser, you are only shooting the flag. The logic circuitry (when turned on) is designed to pick the nearest object out out of any background clutter, and the unit will actually get a reading from everything in range and then sort out the nearest object in the display. This is true of any laser unit with pinseeker type technology like the Leupold and Bushnell both have.

Maybe, is the GX-1 so much better that it is about 50% more expensive ..... or would the RX-1 offer about the same at a nice price level...... ?

I don't have any idea. I have a Bushnell Tour V-2 and I love it. Never looked into the Leupold. I know that some hunting lasers have different logic circuitry, but don't know anything about the ones you are looking at.

Exactly, the RX-I has the opposite logic. You don't want it to pick up the nearest object otherwise it woud grab every stick and twig between you and deer. You don't want that in the woods. Conversely, that's exactly what you want on the golf course in order to grab the stick.

OKAY ......

Since most of the comments were quite confusing, I decided to ask the same question to the customer service of Leupold, this is the answer :

"difference comes from ranging, RX ranges horizontal targets better and GX ranges vertical target better. This will be the main difference."

So ..... no difference in the optics ..... just as I said ...... $100 extra for the word "golf" .....

I think towards the RX and how about holding it 90 degrees

OKAY ......

I got a different story from my rep at Leupold (I'm a Leupold dealer). I was told, and have experienced, that the RX does not work as well for ranging pins as the GX does. I've tried it at multiple angles as well. I've tried the RX and the GX side by side on the course and in the woods and they both work far better in the environment that they were designed for.

ETA: Yes the optics are the same but the electronics (ranging) are designed for different applications.

Have you tried to use the RX turned 90 degrees ...... as I cannot really imagine they are making two versions of the same product.

Interesting. I was told what I posted up above by a Leupold PR guy.

I'd probably trust the actual reps more than the PR guys, though, so thanks for sharing the information.

Actually, I'd trust the design engineers even more. I had instant access to my rep though so I went with what he said and got the GX model for my golf bag. I also recommend that others go this route as well. I also own a few of the RX models and do not get equal performance on the golf course between them. I can't say for sure that I've tried the RX at exactly 90' but I have tried it in a number of different orientations. If you want the best performance with the least amount of potential hassle, I always suggest the GX for golf.
